background:

So, there's this girl in my class I have a liking for, right (I'm in college), I first saw her like 2 weeks ago...she seems very smart and nice, kinda shy even; I was thinking of approaching her but I couldn't talk myself into doing it because of , of course, my pimples, gdamn they make me feel like shit (I'd say my acne is moderate *shrug*) I'm afraid that she'll say no only because of that....reject isn't a big deal, but when you think it's because of the acne it makes it much, much worse. Now some people say they don't care that much about it, some say they find it disgusting, and I honestly wouldn't want to find myself being told off by a girl 'cause of thmy pimples, it'd really be the last straw. I wonder if I should go ahead and do it now, or simply forget about it and wait 'till my face clears a bit and I regain a bit more confidence in myself, you know...

sorry for the ranting :P

Why is acne affecting us so deeply? I sometimes hate the world we live in - it's so superficial... we're all so superficial in the end, aren't we :wall:

I always have the feeling that I can never approach someone. I don't think I can measure up to anyone.

I don't think I can measure up to anyone.

Isn't this how we all feel, though ? We just won't stop "mesuring" ourselves with the "others", thinking we're the worst of the worst, so we end up never making a move... I bet we would be so much more confident in a world without mirrors, because most of this depression has to do with the negative image WE create of ourselves, an image we don't like and believe hideous...and thinking the world will despise us for it :doubt: :doubt:

Sometimes it is just a matter of waiting until you regain some of that lost confidence. Although at times, you will have to push yourself into an uncomfortable position. Out of your safety net if you like. That's what helps you get back to feeling better about yourself.

The biggest problem, in my opinion, is that people are always looking for something more than a friendship. There's absolutely no reason why you can't just try strike up something simple with her. Making new friends can really help you gain some self-esteem, and there's a lesser sense of obligation to look aesthetically attractive, as opposed to relationships.

Just tell yourself you're a good person, go in with a positive attitude and make conversation with her. You have alot in common seeing as you're at the same college, and once the ice is broken it's fairly smooth sailing.
