Hi! I havebeen on this board for over a decade, took a break for many years after successful scar treatments, and recently came back two years ago after a bad breakout which gave me new scarring. Myscarring has never been severe, but I havehad all types of scars (scarredpores, ice pick, boxcar, rolling, and even hypertrophic) which gave me a nasty looking texture especiallyin certain unflatteringlighting. While my skin still isnt perfect, after two years of dermastamp - single needling, Ive gotten so much improvement.Im finally comfortable with my skin again, and want to share my story soit might help others have hope with their own journeys. A little backstory:I first developed scarring 10+ years ago, andwith the help of this forum, performed TCA cross on myself, had dry Tattooing (basicallythe same thing as needling) by Frank from Transitions, and had a few Fraxeltreatments over the period of 3 years. All of these treatments proved successful and gave me skin thatwasnt 100% perfect, but skin I felt comfortable inagain. For thenext few yearsI was happy with my skin...until 3 years ago. My skin hadnever stopped completely breaking out, but it was only one or two zitsonce a month that never scarred. Then, all hell broke loose, myskin broke out badly, and healed even worse leaving me with around 10new scars. Again, my scarring was not severe, but I developed all types of new scars-a few ice picks, some uglylinear indents, a really bad looking boxcar, a rolling, and even a hypertrophic scar next to an atrophic scarugh. After being content with my skin for years, I was mentally in such a bad place again. Until I started doing single needling with diabetic lancets. I do havea microneedling device, but afterusing it once,I just personally feel more comfortable doing single needling, even if it takes longer to do it. Istartedneedling each scar once every 4-6 weeks (Sometimes skipping a month because I had a social event or I just didnt feel like going through the short recovery). The first few months weredisappointing. ThenI started incorporating red/blue light therapy into it, and using Terpoline topicals and supplementsduring healing. The Red/blue Light device I use is NeutrogenasLED mask whichalso keeps my acne at bay (along with Zinc). Another thing that helpedme finally see results, was needlingaround the scars, not just inside of them. I had always been afraid to do more damage that way, butthat is truly how you change the shape of the scar. Its important that I add, manyof the scars looked worse before they looked better, and it was discouraging. Some looked deeper, wider, redder, and just...bad.Some took months to level out or looksofter and blend in with the skin. This is not an overnight or even overmonth thing. Ive literally needled each scar at least 15-20 times in the last 2 years. I am taking a break over the summer, and will probably needle a few more times come Fall, butmy skin is 75% better than it was when I started. Also! The single needling has improved all of my scars. It has even flatteneda hypertrophic scar and made 2 ice picks smaller and softer. When I look in the harshest lighting, I can still see some minor scarring and uneven texture, but it is so much more shallow and less noticeable now. I think Icould get 90% improvementif I do this again a few more times. So, thats my story. I think the red/blue LED light, good topicals, supplements especiallyduring healing, and time/patience are key. Oh, and needling outside the scar and changing its shape! Ineedledonly insidethe scars for way too long, whichmight be why it took me long to see these great improvements. It took me two years and lots of stress and tears to get here, but Im so happy I didnt give up. Im also happy I didnt get any laser treatments, which cansometimes cause more harm than good, because in the end, I didnt end up needing them. I may treat myself to a professional microneedling treatmentwith some fancy PRP one day, but Im good for now. Good luck and best wishes.
