Hey everyone,
Thanks in advance for reviewing my pictures and providing insight!
Ive been struggling with acne body scars for as long as i can remember (31 now). My acne is all 100% gone now (peanut butter literally caused all of it), so i want to tackle all of these horrible scars that have cost me so much in life.
Thankfully my financial resources are high, so Im happy to try anything regardless of cost, even if that involves travelling to see leaders in the field (although I dont know any). I also can work from anywhere, so downtime isnt an issue at all.
I noticed that SkinTE is finally rolling out, so thats promising. Is there anything I can do to repair my scarring in the meantime? Im currently applying an AHA every night, but that has done nothing as expected. My plan was to CO2 laser spot test to see if I could flatting all the textural issues, and then just tattoo over all hypopigmentation with some art. No idea if thats even feasible, but Im desperate to hide all this unsightly scarring.
My body seems to have every scar type imaginable, minus icepick scars. My chest has a couple large indented scars as well, and Im not even sure if these can be leveled as they are really deep.
Worth mentioning that I purchased that Derminator device a while back to try needling, but I havent opened it yet. Not sure if needling will make a difference.
Thanks again everyone!
@DeltoPlease checkout the FAQ below, you will see a section on hypertorphic scarring. These scars on the body are very difficult to treat because of vascularity, tougher skin, slower healing times, and pigment issues.
Also see in the FAQ the skin section and goto hypopigmentation (loss of pigment). Some treatments for this are uvb and growth hormone. Applying Latisee after dermarolling the scars. Or medical tattooing to put some pigment in the scars. Regarding the scars Laser is done mainly for the body with steroid drip.
I will not discuss Skin Te here as it's not a real thing at this point. You can debate the hypotheticals in the scar less healing post. I would not hold off on treatment as you may be waiting a few years. See someone who specialties in hypertrophic scarring. Because of the widespread nature of your scarring I do not know how much percentage of improvement you will get (various parts of the body).
@Obi wanTake a look please at this case.

Thank you for the information. Do you know if deep chemical peels would help my situation? I also noticed that you were familiar with Davin Lim, do you think it would be worth my while to go stay in Australia for a few months to see him? My city doesnt really have and dermatologists of note.
Thanks!
Hard to get a fantastic result, but improvements possible. This is due to physiology. The type of scars you have are papular hypertrophic. Ask your dermatologist politely for a test patch. Photography say a twenty square cm area on on side, and treat with A 10 steroid injections. Not difficult to perform but time consuming as placement has to be exact. The other side, treat each scar with a good CO2 laser, ,five to ten percent fractional only, then drip steroid in the treated grid. Occlude for 3 hours. Then review in 6 weeks. See which is the better side. Sometime old fashioned steroid injections are better. Given the extent, may need ten treatments or so. Chest area, I suspect you have active folliculitis causing scarring, your dermatologist will have a better understanding with close examination. If this is the case, hair removal to stop ingrowns that cause inflammation. Once this is settled- given the atrophy, excision of some scars, then bio-stimulatory fillers - Sculptra - Radiesse etc... can help, followed by CO2 low density lasers. Once again unlike facial skin, body scars take a lot more treatments, and have to be treated with caution. All the best
@DeltoYes If it's financially feasible I think Dr Lim can you you with your scars. Obi Wan has given you ery good advice in detail as I said above laser and steroid drip.

I have similar scars after suffering with years of body acne mostly on the sides of my back, shoulders, upper arms upper buttocks and outer thighs. My scars are not as bad as yours but in some spots, I have many of them clustered together and it looks as if I had a bad scrape or burned.
These are called popular acne scars or follicular macular atrophy. I believe they also go by perifollicular elastolysis or mid dermal elastolysis. They are a type of acne scar that the medical community is only starting to look at. In the past, they would be classified as hypertrophic scarring but then doctors realized these scars are a little different. The bigger ones you have are hypertrophic scarring.
I suspect you have a lot of bugs causing the flare ups and is not all acne. You should see a dermatologist to take a biopsy of your skin and get a proper treatment to stop the breakouts.
Nothing much can be done about the scars presently. Steroid injections can flatten them but most of mine seem to have flatten on their own with time. Don't expect to get your skin back like it was before. Some websites claim that they vanish after a year of no more breakouts. Mine are still there after many many years. Essentially, these result from loss of elastic tissue on the skin and they look wrinkly.
