I picked my skin for years. Could not stop for long. Until I started watching dermatology videos on YouTube. There is even a dermatologist that makes extraction videos expressly for pickers to watch to get the satisfaction of picking without actually damaging their skin.
Any time I get the urge, I go online and search for blackhead extractions. Watch a few videos and I'm cool. It is weird, but it works.
I'm going to start trying this. I have tried everything I can think of. Wearing gloves around the house, putting honey on breakouts so you can't touch them, even keeping the lights dimmed in the bathroom so you can't see the mirror. It's unrealistic for me to avoid mirrors all the time I'm a 18 year old girl and because of my face condition I feel the need to wear makeup any time I might see someone outside of my family or my boyfriend.
I've been picking for years and it makes me feel so ashamed. I just started a new natural skin care routine and I'm going to stop picking along with it. I know it's what I have to do to clear up my skin. Thanks for the tip!
I think it can be a medical condition, this need to pick. There's a name for it but I can't remember right now. But this has helped me a LOT!
I think so too because my mom and other people are always saying just don't touch your face.... But I can't! Especially when I'm stressed.

There is a name for it, and I think even medications that help control the urge to pick, if you need a boost. It's funny because some of the doctors in the videos say thinks to their patients like "people watch this before going to bed, they find it really relaxing"
And I totally do! Meanwhile my friend is freaking out and MORE stressed when I showed it to her, lol

Hi Adren077, what natural routine are you using?
I'm so glad this worked for you. Because I suffer from this too and it's the worst. Yeah dermatillomania. I had seen those videos a while back and was really hoping they'd help me but they didn't. made sense that it could help. but i just felt like passing out, it was so gross...usually because they're so much more exaggerated. But it's so sad how it can feel totally gross and violent to watch it happen to someone else...but then feel relieved and in a trance while it's happening to you. Such is the very nature of the disorder though, so nobody's to blame.

Boy do I get that!! Whenever I get stressed I catch myself feeling my face for something to pick, even though I hardly get acne anymore!

It's definitely like being in a trance...especially when you realize 2 hours have gone by! I used to spend hours in front of the mirror.
Sarah...great suggestion!!
