I have been picking my skin/acne for about a year and a half. I have tried to stop and I can-as long as there is somebody watching me or supporting me, but when I am alone I cannot. Perhaps, if there is another one of you who is also trying to stop, but find it difficult we could be Anti-Picking Partners. We could email, text, and/or message each other frequently and work together to stop this and if we fail we can support one another and get back on track. So..anyone want to be my buddy? Also, anyone who has had any experience with this common problem feel free to post your experiences. I am also open to any suggestions on how to prevent and stop picking.

I used to pick (and I still do at times) but what did it for me was, attaching a rubber band to my wrist. Every time I felt the compulsion to pick, I'd snap the band and the pain, albeit minor, helped me to remember why the band was there in the 1st place. Now I don't really need a band.
There was a point where my acne was so bad that my face was covered in scabs. I skipped college that day, sat on the bathroom floor and picked and scratched them all until they bled. Only after I was done did I realize that I lost control and that's when I decided to take action.
Apparently it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. Find a method and be consistent.

Thank you for the tip! I will definitely try it out.
Hey I'm trying to stop picking too...I'm trying out the elastic band method too and it actually seems to be working. Just remember the compulsion to pick usually stems from something psychological, just for example one of the emotional issues personally is being a control freak. The habitual side of picking should be simple enough to break using methods like the elastic band, but the compulsion will rarely ever completely go away unless you can figure out a way to deal with the psychological side too. The fact you've made the decision that you want to stop picking is brilliant though, it's affected me for about 8 years now so it's better to start addressing it sooner rather than later
Though i'm not an avid picker. But there are occasions when i have itchy skin and i just carelessly scratch it all over. And then the next day it's a disaster.A big zit in it's nascence! And then i promise myself that i won't do it again, only to find myself doing it over and over again. And this has been happening since 4 years now.Sometimes's i feel i'm an imbecile. :/.
