Extremely Oily Skin

I've had severely oily skin for years. I always see people post about how oily their skin is but nothing I've seen online compares to my face :| Every inch of my face is drenched in oil minutes after washing. The temples, jawline, forehead, cheeks, nose, etc all look like they're coated in melted butter. In fact, after I use Clean & Clear oil blotting sheets, my eyelashes are so saturated in oil that it looks like I rubbed vaseline on them! And to top it all off, my face looks the same an hour after blotting.

What shocks people the most is the fact that EVERY INCH of my face gets extremely oily. That includes the lash line, eyebrow bone, upper lip, and every spot from the neck up.

When I walk into pizza restaurants, I walk out with the smell of pizza clinging onto my face. I can actually smell pizza if I press my upper lip against my nose. That's how oily I am..

Even the bend of my elbow and some parts of my neck get slightly dewy in warmer weather.

My scalp was also incredibly oily, smelly, and riddled with pimples but I solved that issue with a gentle dandruff shampoo a while ago.

With my new skin care routine, I have been able to see a reduction in oil production. I now go for an hour or two before getting extremely oily versus a few minutes. But my skin is STILL unreasonably oily even when compared to others that claim to have oily skin.

I've been using this new skin care routine for about 4 months now:

~Cera Ve Foaming Cleanser (really gentle cleanser, similar to Cetaphil. I try to only cleanse my face at night because over cleansing irritates oily skin but my face is so greasy when I wake up that sometimes I end up washing it. I use a small drop to clean my whole face)

~Jojoba Oil as a moisturizer (The one I use is 100% pure jojoba oil...no additives. I find that using 3-4 drops helps control oil better than 1-2)

~Oil-free, non comedogenic sunscreen from Neutrogena

~Epiduo & Tazorac (I have been applying them in appropriate amounts. Epiduo for day and Tazorac at night. I usually have moderate acne but my condition has gotten better with these topical medications)

I mostly eat rice, spice, fish, white meat, fruit, etc.. nothing that's processed or packed with sugar, fat or corn starch.

I'm frustrated because my skin is getting a little bit better with my new skin care routine but it's still BEYOND oily compared to everyone else.

Does anyone have ANY tips?? I will do just about anything that won't harm my health.

I'll attach a picture with this post to show you my oily skin. Keep in mind that I took this picture 2 hours AFTER blotting with Clean & Clear Oil Blotting Sheets while just sitting in my air conditioned room.

I know what you mean I'm super oily too. I was starting to think I was the only one who produces this much oil I just picked up jojoba oil the other day as well as saw palmetto which is a vitamin that brings testosterone levels down so we'll see how it goes.. I'm pretty positive my oil is due to hormones. I also used to use milk of magnesia before applying makeup which only worked for about an hour.. I'll let you know how my saw palmetto works out for me.. Hope your regimen sticks also

Sounds interesting! I did some research and found that higher vitamin D3 and vitamin A in the body can drastically reduce oil production. I'm giving vitamin D3 and vitamin A a try simultaneously in small doses to see if they work. Some symptoms associated with a lack of vitamin D include excessively oily skin, acne, and a sweaty scalp.. Ironically, I have all of these symptoms. Even more ironically, I tan very easily so I don't see how I could lack vitamin D, but maybe my body just can't process it nicely.. Who knows?

Anyway, good luck with the saw palmetto! I'm excited to see if vitamin D3 and vitamin A will work for me.

It's been about 5 days since I started taking vitamin D3 (5,000 IU a day) and vitamin A from fish liver oil (10,000 IU a day). I've actually been taking them before I even made an account on here, but I decided to omit it from my "routine" since it was still very new. Both are as "natural" as I could find- they use safflower oil, gelatin, glycerin unlike other supplements that use magnesium stereate.

So far, I've noticed a slight change in oil production but no difference in acne. It's only been 5 days though, so it might just be a placebo affect. Anyway, my oil is much more thin and relaxed than before. Here's a picture of my skin roughly 2 hours after blotting. I made sure circumstances were as close as possible to the first picture I posted.

I'm also using 1-2 Clean & Clear Oil Blotting Sheets in one sitting versus my usual 3 in one sitting.

Hello there I too have been on the hunt to help oil reduction. I am a 36 year old female and about 45 minutes after washing my face I can blot my face with clean and clear oil absorbing sheets and go through them like crazy because my skin is so oily. It has been oily since I hit puberty, but I would say has gotten worse over the years especially in my 20's. I have tried every thing you can imagine practically. Every prescription and non prescription medication. I have tried the over the counter red/blue light mask you can buy at target that I have read on so many websites that people swore it helped with their acne and oily skin, but I didn't really notice any change. I have been on accutane three times and had the most amazing skin while on it, but I would say each time literally a month post accutane my oil came back just as bad. I have resorted to going back on accutane a fourth time as I have tried for the last couple of years to just accept my skin, but Im just tired of having to constantly blot and cover my skin with makeup. And yes even when I don't wear make up as I have tried that method too, my skin still breaks out and gets super oily. So I know I am giving myself false hope but am going on accutane a fourth time, but the accutane did lessen my acne. I have a lot of underneath closed comedones on my face, but no cystic acne since going on accutane the first time, but for me its very frustrating to be this old and to have underneath bumps all over my face and still be worried about how oily is my skin and assuming people are staring. I am so tired of people and dermatologists saying at least it helps me look young. I would take dry skin and be worried about wrinkle creams right now at my age then still having to worry about acne at 36. All that to say I always go back to benzoyl peroxide wash and or cream. Its the one thing that some what helps and I have had a lot of success with mandelic acid. I am not sure why dermatoligists don't ever mention using it as it has been one of the things has improved the texture of my skin and help a tiny bit with the oil. I believe it exfoliates like ten times more and faster than saclyic acid. Don't quote me on that, but was told by a acne facialist it is much more potent and powerful than saclycic acid. Any ways thats my two cents. Good luck. Hope your regime continues to work.

Your findings with BP are interesting! I actually switched to an extremely gentle cleanser because I heard that things like BP just irritate oily skin. Maybe I'll give BP a shot.

For now, however, I have decided to postpone the vitamin D3 + vitamin A supplements until I get official blood tests done to see if I'm actually deficient in anything. It's been a week so far and I have not seen any significant results. It's very humid today and my oil looks just as bad as it was before. Really thick and shiny.

But on the bright side, I found something that has no side effects or severe health concerns since it is an herbal extract. I'll be starting it today.

It's "saw palmetto standardized extract" and "stinging nettle standardized extract".

Oilygirl927 even brought it up on a previous post on this thread.

Both of these herbs are known to regulate DHT (a sex steroid and androgen hormone). DHT is known to cause acne in both males and females. In excessive amounts, DHT can cause extremely oily skin!

If you follow the guidelines in this post < >

I'm sure it's safe and effective.

I hope I'm not coming off as someone that just jumps into new regimens without much thought. I'm just really keen on trying new, safe ways to try to eliminate my oily skin!

I think if you over use benzoyl peroxide then yes it will make your skin much more oilier. You have to find a right balance and routine for you skin. I right now use a benzoyle peroxide face wash from CVS. I spot treat if needed with benzoyl peroxide for the rare cystic pimple. I use 10percent for that I use oxy clear which works super fast and is cheap, and I am no doctor, but I keep getting told and have read that 2.5 benzoyl peroxide is just as effective as 10 percent and that seems to be what everyone is using so go with the 2.5 and see how it affects your skin. I used epiduo and my derm told me he had patients who complained that it burned their skin so bad and made them so dry and flaky so I was hopeful, but guess what??? I got no burning sensation and never got dry with it . Some people swear by it and was super hopeful it would work for for me as it is retina and benzoyl peroxide in one, but nope did nothing.

Please wash your face twice a day. Research says that washing DOESNT lead to overproducing oil. Once per day is too few to be clean enough

http://www.karger.com/Article/FullText/338978#ref18

And you should NEVER put undiluted essential oil on your skin unless it's proven safe. What you are doing now, 3-4 drops is too dangerous. Some essential oil are even harmful to pregnancy so dont think what are natural are all safe or that you can use it freely
