Oily Skin/clogged Pores

Hey guys... I'm writing this because I really need some advice or explanations. I have insanely oily skin- I wash in the morning and I'm oily by 10. I also have clogged pores- NO inflamed breakouts ever, but clogged pores and blackheads which is a result of my oily skin. I've always had a few clogged areas and oily skin but it got way worse when I started seasonale birth control in january- and came off of Alesse which I had been on for 5 years. I also got body acne which I never had with Alesse either- so bad I even consistently get pimples on my scalp from the oil. I looked up the hormone levels and the difference is progesterone- 0.15 in Seasonale, 0.1 in Alesse and estrogen is 0.3 in Seasonale and 0.2 in Alesse. What could possibly be doing this to my skin? :( I'm looking to get tested for hormone levels this week- maybe I'm producing too much testosterone(DHT) and this leads to my clogged pores? Could anyone explain why it might have gotten worse with Seasonale and those hormone levels? I may also potentially have endomitriosis, which I will be getting tested for too. Can anyone explain why this may relate? PLEASE any advice on generally how hormones work and what may be causing my oil/clogged areas, and body breakouts from the Seasonale.

I wish it was any of those..it's been over a year and all I've done is make sure theres NOTHING else that can possibly contribute to the clogged pores and oil. All of my products are as non comedogenic as you can get! The hormone levels are my last resort- and also pretty sure its that because of the increase in issues when I switched birth controls, gave me a clue.

I used to have many of the same problems as you. I have heard that Seasonale is not a very good birth control for people prone to acne. Right now I'm on Zovia, and I really like it. I've tried many others including mircette, yaz, yasmin, apri, and orth tri cyclen. I have issues with my hormones (PCOS with high testosterone) and what has helped me is finding the right birth control, following a strict diet (low fat, low gi, no sugar), taking vitamin C, and making sure nothing I put on my skin is clogging me. My diet has definitely been the most helpful. It has actually reduced my testosterone levels. Running everything I put on my skin through Cosdna also helps. Have you done that? I found out that my makeup and sulfur acne medication were clogging me badly.

Thanks for the reply! I asbolutely have, I love the wesbite. I actually have nothing else to chalk it up to- I've eliminated all face makeup completely because I thought thats what it was. But after eliminating everything and getting like I said- as close to non comedogenic skin care routine as you can get- It has to be my birth control. Currently being on Alesse- which has the same hormone levels as Seasonale but less( which explains why I still had clogging/oily skin on Alesse, just not AS BAD as on Seasonale). My doctor gave me the choice to switch to ortho try cyclen Lo- which apparently has low androgenic activity which makes it good for people who are acne prone. What did you think of that one? Also- how did you find out you had high testosterone levels? I asked my doctor for blood work for my hormones and he said it won't come back with exact numbers- just if my hormone levels are normal or not. I wonder if I potentially have PCOS- I was even leaning towards endometriosis as well. He's sending me for an ultra sound and blood work tomorrow...

I am not sure what your doctor is talking about. My doctor tested my testosterone levels using a blood test and there were definitely exact numbers. When I first had my levels tested I was at 67 (for the test I had 30 or below was normal). This was when I was already taking zovia. The next time I had my levels checked they were at 16, and that was after changing my diet. I really think diet plays a huge role in hormones. I used to have very oily skin. My skin would get oily within an hour of washing it, and by the end of the day my whole face would be covered in oil. Since changing my diet and taking vitamin C daily this doesn't happen anymore. I can now go 8 hours or more and just get a little oily on my nose. This is amazing considering I thought I would stuck with oily skin forever since my mom has had it her whole life. Regarding OTC lo, I don't have much experience with that pill, but I did try OTC and I think it was a fine pill, but I still prefer zovia. Zovia makes my skin less oily and makes my periods so much better (yay 3 day periods with no cramps). Some people cannot tolerate that much estrogen, though, and if you think you're one of those people maybe it would be better to start with OTC lol. Also, mircette was my second favorite pill (also low dose like OTC lol). Yaz and Yasmin were horrible for me. They cleared up my skin and got rid of the oil, but they made my hair fall out, gave me cotton mouth, and made me so tired. When I stopped taking them it took months for my hair to stop falling out and I got horrible breakouts (like nothing I had experienced in my life).
