I Have An Oily Scalp As Well-Suggestions On Shampoo?

I have very long hair and I'm trying to go a little more natural. I've found some things that are making a difference in my hair, but seem to cause a little build up on my scalp. It's not super itchy, but when I scratch my scalp, I sometimes pull out a little blackhead.

Any suggestions on shampoo for people with oily hair? What are everyone's thoughts on conditioner? I don't use much, mostly just on the ends to make it a little easier to comb through. I haven't been using any kinds with sulphates or crap ingredients but I just thought about how when I was a kid, I never used conditioner and I had clean, shiny hair. But as we age, volume decreases, hair thins out and seems to get drier on the ends faster than it used to.

Thanks in advance for any help or thoughts on the matter. :)

Human hair and scalp needs to be at a pH of 4.5 to 5.5.

When your scalp is at this pH, it is able to fight off infection, and isn't overly oily or dry.

When your hair is at this pH, it is smoother, shinier, and holds in moisture.

Get a shampoo and conditioner as close to 4.5 to 5.5 range as possible.

I used to use Treseme shampoo, and ew, that was a disaster.

I switched to Pantene's Aqua Light and I love it. It cleans hair and doesn't leave any junk in it. As far as conditioner goes, I use the matching Aqua Light conditioner, but just on my ends.

Also, don't wash your hair everyday if you can help it. Rinse it maybe, but you should really only wash it every other day. The more you wash, the oiler it gets.

And my hair gets oily fast because it's on my forehead, so I keep my bangs in place with hair spray, and it keeps it from flopping in the oil on my forehead :P so try that maybe?

Tea tree shampoo works great for this. I like the GVP tea tree shampoo from Sally's. It's the generic version of Paul Mitchell tea tree shampoo.

Carwinns-Thanks! Treseme is a disaster! I tried that back in highschool and my hair was stringy and gross. I wish I could get away with not washing it, but my hair is so fine and this excess oil on my face and scalp is awful. My hair is clumpy by the end of the day. I used to be able to go every other day in my early twenties, but I should give it a shot again.

Paigems- I have tea tree oil, maybe I could just throw a few drops in my hands when I use shampoo!

i use dove and its okay.

for those who suffer from acne and has oily scalp, washing hair everyday might not be bad idea.

atleast u could rub ur towel like Dan does to take that oil off, else there are chances of hairline acne/clogged pores.

i wash my hair(at least the front part everyday with just water) and shampoo using dove shampoo(repair therapy range - i guess thats what its called) every 4 days(or sometimes 5) and i dnt use any conditioner now a days(may be when i will resume work etc i might use some on the end parts) but honestly i feel i dnt need it much.

there was a time when my hair used to be so rough irrespective of dry or oily scalp but now although i do get oily scalp in days but there isnt any oil dripping.

the balance(not too dry and not too oily) is probably for my change in diet and lifestyle am not sure.

also,i used to shampoo my hair once in a week or even later and that was not the best idea i think.
