I am a 31 year old female who is now experiencing what I believe is hormonal acne. I never had any bad skin problems in the past except for maybe a zit every now and then but at the same time I was always on a birth control pill. I quit taking the pill a little over 3 years ago because I felt that I had been taking it for a long time and felt like it must not be good for me. My skin stayed clear for the most part except for around 6-8 months ago. I started getting one or two pimples every now either on my cheeks or around my chin and then and they would leave a red scar that stayed for months. In the last 2-3 months it has gotten a lot worse...I have consulted a dermatologist and he has given me different cleansing products and creams to try but nothing helps. I didn't want to go back on the pill since in the next year or two I will maybe want to try and get pregnant and don't want to go through this all over again later but now I feel like it is my only option. The scars are getting worse and there are more of them. I am to a point that I never leave the house without make up and am very ashamed of my skin. I have an appointment with my gynaecologist next week and need to decide what I am going to do. Does anyone have any suggestions other than going back on the pill? Which pill is the best?Has anyone gone back on the pill and stopped again later on without the acne coming back? I am willing to try pretty much anything for any price at this point. Thanks in advance to anyone who has any advice.

Hey I am in a similar situation as you. I'm 26 years old and I've been on BCP for the past 8 years and have cleared my hormonal acne. Like you, I'm planning on getting pregnant in the next couple years so I'm trying to do as much research as I can so I can prevent breaking out when I get off it. So far I've found that diet has a lot to do with the hormones that cause acne so I'm going to make a huge change in my diet/lifestyle! The biggest ones are to cut sugar and dairy so I'm going to start there. Topicals won't do anything because acne comes from the inside. There's a wealth of information on the diet & nutrition boards so you should check it out.
