Anyone who has been in a situation like this, I would love your opinion on what I should do!

Heres a bit of background:

ive suffered with acne for 11 years now (I'm 23). A few years ago I finally realized that loading my face up with topical a was never going to clear the cystic zits that I had all over my chin and mouth area. I figured out that my problem was hormonal and started taking birth control and seeing a new dermatologist who immediately prescribed spironolactone. I've been on it for 2 or 3 years now and it is the only thing that has been able to clear my skin. I've been fortunate enough to only get a few zits a month (usually a cyst around my period) but also at random times. The only thing I've had to deal with are the scars. Recently I went off my birth control for a month to see if my sex drive would come back. This was a stupid idea I guess but I was hoping it was mainly the spiro keeping me clear. I broke out a little and then went back on it. 3 weeks later my chin erupted with 7-inflamed 10 cystic pimples, worse than its been in years. I went to my Derm who said my hormones were adjusting to going on and off the pill and she gave me some cortisone injections to the bad ones and prescribed a months worth of monocycline 2x a day "for as long as I need it". She thinks this breakout is a fluke and my skin will go back to normal. My question is how long should I be taking antibiotics for? Should I wait a few months to be safe until the birth control kicks back in, or will my acne come back even worse after I stop? Girls that went on and off BC, did your skin go back to being clear? I don't want to add yet another pill for my skin to be dependent on and I'm afraid of the acne bacteria becoming resistant.

I don't recommend antibiotics, I was on them twice and it cleared me and the acne came right back afterwards. It's a very temporary fix. You're aware that antibiotics effect bcp effectiveness? What kind of topicals do you use?

I was on birth control for 4 years before, and came off it and ended up getting bad acne, I waited a year to see if I'd balance out. Nope. Though I was never clear on bcp, it did help. I ended up going back on it after the year. It's been about a year being back on it, and my skin is doing better.

Thanks for replying. My friend reminded me that anti biotics can mess with BCP so I looked it up and apparently not all types do. Mino doesn't seem to be on the list of the medications that interfere with the pill. I also hope my Derm would have mentioned that but who knows. When I'm clear I just wash my face with tea tree oil cleanser and moisturizer with cerave.I use topical clydimycin and BPwhen I'm breaking out because it cleared me up in the past but mino is the first oral antibiotic I've taken for acne. I figured it was a temporary fix but it's definitely clearing up my breakout really fast. Do you think I should go off of it after this month? My hopes are that it will keep everything under control while my skin is getting adjusted to being back on birth control.. But now I'm afraid of my skin being "addicted" for lack of a better word.

I wouldn't say addicted, you may become dependent to it, which would prevent you from treating the real cause (vitamin deficiency/diet/etc etc), also if you're not aware, you should try to maintain an intake of probiotics (kefir/supplement/ or yogurt if you can) since it kills the good and bad gut bacteria. Minocycline was just a temporary fix for me(came right back after stopping lmao), maybe ask about using every other day with your doctor? Or reduce dose
