Hi all! After some recent research on natural remedies similar to Metformin for treating for PCOS symptoms, I've come across Berberine. I am part of an online group on facebook called PCOS Divas and they did a highlight of this herb, clinical trials and the benefits. The herb has many great qualities to it- supporting digestion, regulating insulin sensitivity and androgen inhibiting. Should lead to decrease in PCOS symptoms with continuous treatment- including sebum and testosterone reduction. I am a thin "cyster" but have irregular periods as well, oil productions etc. I am on Spironolactone, but recently had to increase my dose as symptoms started to return.

My plan for Berberine is the following- 3- 500mg a day for 6 days, break 1 day. This will be continuous for 2-3 months then a break for one month as suggested. The only other supplements I take currently are zinc for healing and magnesium for sleep related and anxiety issues. Berberine is supposed to be more powerful than Metformin and less side effects. I may look into a vegan probiotic in the next week for overall gut health. I plan to track my usage, success and observations here.

Hi there
i would be very interested in reading about your feedback on Berberine as I have started it 6 weeks ago along with a whole other supplement programme. As soon as I started it I noticed less hunger, less sugar cravings, less food consumption in general. I put this down to Berberine. Other supplements I take are anti-inflammatories, magnesium, zinc, selenium, inositol, and several, others. Have a look at Lara Briden and her book Period Repair Manual, it has been a revelation. Her blog is great. Good luck!
