Effects of Birth Control

Hi

I have recently developed mild acne and I'm wondering whether it could be down to birth control.

In June 2015, I took microgynon 30 for two months (prior to that I had been off birth control for about three years).

After two months, I then came off the pill for one full month (I was thinking to stop, because I started developing a few minor pimples). However, after1 month off the pill, I then took Microgynon for another 1 month.

Then, in October, I switched pill to Yasmin. My skin started getting greasy and breaking out terribly, so I stopped it after one month.

I now haven't been taking the pill for around 2-3 weeks ( and I am not going to take the pill any more). A few new pimples have developed but nothing to major. The breakout I had from about a month ago is still on my face though.

Does anyone have experience of stopping/starting the pill in quick succession and did this have an effect on your skin. If it's the pill doing this, do you think it will take at least 3 more months for my skin to get back to normal?

It's hard to know if it is the pill or not, because around the time of starting the BCP I also started training for a half marathon, and went from a pretty lazy lifestyle to running 6 days a week. I've read somewhere than increased cortisol levels from intense exercise can also cause mild acne..

Thanks for any replies.

You should wait at least 3 or 4 months to your body adjusts to the pill. If you switch or go on and off it, your hormone levels will fluctuate a lot and your body will get crazy, including your acne. Just hang in there and stick to Yasmin because it's one of the best pills for hormonal pimples. It's completely normal that your acne might get worse at the beginning, but it will eventually get clear. Don't worry! ;)
