I have been experiencing acne for years now. I was on birth control for quite awhile and it only made it worse. After going through a surgery and having to be on narcotics for over 2 months I found myself with an incredibly red rash all over my face and linked it to eating gluten. Unfortunately after a year of cutting out gluten and being able to control my face, my skin condition has come back. I went to the dermatologist and they told me to try to eat gluten again and prescribed me adaplene (differin) and aczone. After trying the adaplene for one night I woke up with 3 huge cystic pimples on my cheek that make my cheeks swell up. I stopped using the adapalene because it made my face worse (over a month ago) and I'm still getting giant cystic pimples all over my cheeks as well as my jawline and sides of my face. Because of eating gluten my super dry patches have come back and are extremely itchy and make my face hot and blotchy. It's so painful and irritating and I feel awful because of it. PLEASE ADVICE WOULD BE WONDERFUL.
I would cut out the gluten again, if you've ever taken antibiotics you probably hve leaky gut to some extent and the protein In gluten is hard to digest and inflammatory (and the inflammation shows up on the skin.) Personally I never had success with any topical in controlling my acne, they seem to irritate more
Oh my - we could be twins! I am on differin and aczone. This regimen has flaired my dermatitis to which my derm prescribed Elidel cream (i've had to stop the differin for the time being). I believe the Elidel is breaking me out something fierce.
Stop gluten if it clears up the dermatitis. Also, retinoids will break you out in the first few months so getting worse acne is not unusual.
Stay positive and try to not get stressed. If you have the cash, maybe you can consult a naturpath.....

I WAS PRESCIRBED ELIDEL TOO. Is that what's causing the awful breakout?? Interesting...
No kidding! I think its a likely suspect. How long have you been on it? has it helped with the dermatitis at all?
I've had the Elidel for 2 months..honestly I see more of a difference and less itchiness with the dermatitis when I just use hydrocortisone and not the prescription.
If you suspect digestive issues, yes, gluten could be the culprit but so could other things. If you have taken so many prescription drugs, then your digestion is probably off.
For the dermatitis, have you thought about changing your cleanser and/or moisturizer? SLS could make it worse, so try to avoid sulphates for a while and see what happens.

At the moment I'm just using a cervae cleanser and cetaphil moisture on my face and my cystic acne is raging. I'm avoiding gluten as well. I think I'm going to go back to the dermatologist because something seems off..all the acne is on my cheeks/jawline so it may be something hormonal.

cerave has SLS and other toxic ingredients....I would cut those out of your regimen for a few days and see what happens.
