Should I Take Dim? (Or Would It Not Be Advisable For My Issue?)

Hi everyone,

I'm seeking opinions before I start on the supplement DIM.

I have read a lot about DIM online, but I'm still not sure if I should take it. A little about my acne - I used to break out on my cheeks and sides of forehead mainly but in recent months, they relocated(lol) to the sides of my chin. I don't break out much after my period (I stay considerably clear at that time.. with some pimples still, but nothing serious), but all hell starts breaking loose during my mid-cycle, up to the point when I have my menses. (and then they will start clearing up again slowly)

So these days, this mid-cycle breakouts have been bothering me a lot. I get those stupid whiteheads on the sides of my chin, and they are hard to cover with makeup. Tiny ones... bigger ones.. in clusters. I did some research and wahlala, it's "hormonal acne", and DIM is recommended.

BUT(!) I don't know if DIM is right for me. I have gotten a blood test done for my hormones by an endocrinologist, and the results came back fine (fine in that, I don't have hormonal irregularities. everything's within range) However, I got my hormones tested after my period I think. (which means that my hormones might have stabilized(?)) I mean, my hormones definitely go crazy before my period, I think. Also, I'm really skinny, so I really don't think I have "too much estrogen/estrogen dominance"? Yes I do have some PMS symptoms like anxiety, a little(?) of those pissy moods, breast tenderness, and migraines before period comes.. But nothing unmanageable. The ridiculous acne on the sides of my chin are the ones giving me a hard time.

I've been taking saw palmetto every single day (320mg twice a day) - they keep my pores smaller and my face less oily, but they don't fix the chin acne. Borage oil (about 960mg every day during my mid-cycle) to balance my hormones... seems to be helping.. But I still have the chin acne. I definitely think that androgens are causing my face to be super oily before my menses,, but I don't think I have "estrogen dominance"... So I'm wondering, would DIM actually help me? Or would it break me out even more? (Oh goodness, I don't want that to happen ;_;)

Any kind souls who have knowledge in this area, PLEASE help! I'm really excited yet scared of starting on this supplement. It can either help or destroy me!! GRR. Thank you so much in advance.

Did u end up taking DIM?

I purchased my first dim product few months ago but only started taking it two weeks ago because I was afraid of the results.

I've suffered from chin acne for more than two decades of my life I am now 31...

So far the dim isn't doing anything bad to my skin but I'm sure it's too soon to tell

Hey! I just posted something similar here, if u wanna check it out (sorry, I don't have time to retype it right now). and no, blood tests are by no means accurate, especially since they are taken ONCE a month at a random time...hormones fluctuate all the time, so it's hard to detect imbalances from blood testing.

Hello everyone!

I am a Spanish girl so my English is not so good. I suffered from acne about 16 years.. So it is quite enough. My acne is so strong in my chest and back above all, sometimes there are a few ones in my faces but just a little ones. The main problem is in my body, it is sad when I want to wear some. Clothes specially in summer... Imagine.. To have acne in face is normal.. But in the body I seem a
Monster.. My self confidence is too low. I have taken birth pills many years but I want to try another options. I am taking inositol 500 mg per day but there are still acne, my face and hair are very oily. I read about DIM but I am worry if it has side effects, like disorder thyroids, broccoli, cauliflower and those vegetables are not recommended for people who have thyroids disorders... So it could be a problem in the future with dim. I am confused, lost and sad. Help please.
