Basically, I've had cystic chin acne since I was 13 so that's about 6-7 years now. I just decided today enough is enough. I've put off going on birth control for so long due to fear of the side effects. But it's getting to that point in my life where I just want clear skin and I figured millions of women are on birth control, even those without acne so it can't be that scary.
I've been researching which ones are best for chin acne but there's just so many different types I just can't choose which would be safest and most suitable. I've been reading the acne.org forums for so long and I've learnt so much, I would honestly say I trust your opinions more than my doctors (all he ever did was give me a prescription and send me on my way).
So what are your experiences with birth control and were there any side effects I should know about?
(If it's of any interest, I've never been officially diagnosed but I'm pretty sure I have PCOS, don't know whether this will effect anything.)
I don't think it is very healthy to take. I was on it for about 8 years on and off. Everytime I would stop taking any of them I would brake out pretty bad. First I took Yasmin, then I was on Ortho Tryclen because the nurse thought it was safer and then I moved somewhere that wasn't available so I went on Yaz. I didn't have hardly any acne on all of them but finally stopped taking Yaz because it was making me very moody and angry. When I was reasearching to see if yaz was making any other women feel crazy (which I found lots of women saying they felt crazy on it) I found out a few young perfectly heathy women died Yaz gave them blood clots which is scary. Maybe if you do decide to go on it maybe research if ortho tryclen wouldn't be better for you.
i would try spiro first before birth control its much safer. you dont have to worry about blood clots on spiro. i was on ortho tri-cyclen for years and all it did was make my skin so much worse. i wish i never took the pill in my life. i am on spiro though and that sh*t works!
Having also used BCP in my teen years, it never helped my acne and coming off of it broke me out soooooooooo bad. I agree with Tracy that if you suspect you have PCOS, go see your gyno, get some blood tests done and if its appropriate, try Spiro. It has its side effects as well but the blood clot thing is not one of them as far as i can recall.
Good Luck. At the end of the day, it's your decision so you have to do whats best for you.
