I'm on Mononessa, and it's the only thing that's helped my cystic cheek acne. My skin is 90-100% clear while I'm on it. When I stopped taking it for a period of time, my skin broke out worse than ever. Not sure what I'd do without it!

Thanks for sharing! If you're oily, have you noticed that it has done anything for your oil production?

I'm still pretty oily, but I noticed my forehead doesn't have as much of a slick as before. Better than nothing!

Hi, post-178781-0-97957000-1398426117.jpgpost-178781-0-53907500-1398426212.jpg

I am on Ortho-Tri-Cyclen for acne. I also take spironolactone. I started off with spiro and then added Ortho-Tri-cyclen and I have noticed a huge improvement in just 9 days. All the conventional wisdom says 6 months for both spiro and BCpill. I definitely think the pill will work wonders for acne.

Good to hear that Ortho TriCyclen has helped people with their skin. It seems to work for some people and not others. My daughter has been on it for a year and it didn't improve her skin at all (her skin has improved drastically on the Regimen however) Two of her friends have been on OrthoTriCyclen the same amount of time as her and their skin has cleared up completely!

Good luck!

I was on Sprintec for only 2 months because it gave me the worst breakouts I've ever experienced. I experienced deep cysts and nodules along with black heads and white heads and even a rash around my mouth. However my back cleared up magically within a week or so. As soon as I started taking doxycyclin and switched back to Orsythia my skin went back to normal and cleared up. Everyone's different when it comes to hormones though, so it could be completely different for you! Good luck!

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences! Right now I'm on zovia, and it seems to be working pretty well. I think it's possible that another bcp might help me more, but I think I'm just going to stay with what's working since I'm almost clear. Also, I have tried ortho tri-cyclen in the past and my skin didn't like it. It made me oily and breakout more, and then on the week when I didn't take it my skin would improve.

Hi I need help.

( little background on my situation) I WAS ON Yaz for about 10 years and got off birth control because it was making my hair thin, I was practically balding and at the time I was 28. I have now been off BC for two years and having fuller hair but suffering with Cystic acne once again.

Sadly Acne is genetic for me. It has truly affected my life to the point that a month ago I decided to get back on BC and my gyno put me on Mononessa. So this is what i need help with....

I had cystic acne before mostly around my chin and mustache/lip area and if I got really stressed every once in a while i would get one or two huge cysts on my nose. Anyway I have been on Mononessa now for about 2 weeks I know its not a long time but it has made my acne worst and infact am now getting pus acne on my cheeks where I didnt get it before. I am willing to stay on Mononessa if it really will make it better in the end. I just spoke withmy gyno/nurse and will try tostay on it for like 2 or 3 months to see if it improves. I am moving out of the country in August and need to find a solution so that I can be happy for atleast a year abroad and not stress about my face or have to hide all the time.

I want to know if other women have seen a benefit to being on Mononessa for acne in the long run. Please advise.

Leanna 123 BTW have you had any side effects with spirolactone?

I am on my second pack of Ortho Cyclen. I too have been trying to hear people's experiences with either an IB or no results for a few months before having clear skin! It doesn't seem to be helping yet for me (except for making me bloated and moody...)

I've been on Spiro going on 7 months and about to start my second pack of Ortho TriCyclen and my skin is completely clear even thru my menstrual cycle which is the first time I've been clear around this time of month in years!!! I think the birth control was the missing piece in my regimen. So far I'm really liking this bc.

This pill doesn't help my acne very much but doesn't make it worse. It's a good pill despite this fact so I am staying on it

Yah the mononessa is making me moody, and a bit nauseas but I don't care if in the end I will have clear skin ..

Update week 5 of mononessa and skin has gotten worse I had to get 14 cortisone shots last week :( very painful ....

Valerie 44 --- I was hesitant to go On Spirolactone but am willing to now cause I'm so desperate, anyway can I go on it without having to go to the doctor like regular check ups? I'm going to grad school abroad for a year so I neeed something I can just take without having to check in ...

Also anyone ever hear of ovarian cyctic desease?

I went to see a new Dermo last week one of my 3 at the moment and she thinks I may have that

M84 I'm sorry it's not working out well for you so far :(.

I wanted to update, too. I have now finished my 2nd pack of Ortho Cyclen (name brand) and things are better. Not perfect, but an improvement. I've noticed that the first week or two I get some new pimples, and then my skin gets better toward the end of the back. Now, at this same time, I did change my skin care regimen a bit, but I think the BC has made the biggest difference. I had been using retinoids for a year and I felt they were drying out my skin and not doing their job, so I stopped altogether and started us using Obagi Clenziderm salicylic acid cleanser and toner at night (instead of my normal gentle CeraVe cleanser), and now the cleanser in the morning too.

I just want to the derm who said my skin was "a million times better" than 2 months ago, and recommended I try differin .1 for a gentle retinoid instead of tretinoin. She also have me .3 samples to work up too, but I've been on that before and I think it would be too drying with salicylic acid products.

I'm going to give the pill 3 months to see if it truly helps, but my (and my derm's) prediction is that the pill was my missing piece and my acne is hormonal. That's why all the retinoids weren't helping on their own.
