I feel like my clock is ticking. I've already built tolerance to Yaz, as after taking it for about 7 months I began to break out more and more every month. I am now taking Diane, which is supposed to be stronger (or at least for me it was), but I feel like it will also stop working eventually. I know a few people on here are dealing with the same thing, and I wonder what route they took/are planning on taking now that BC stops working. Please share.
Ok, when I replied to your other post I didn't realize you'd only been on yaz for 7 months. That makes it less likely this is a rebound breakout.
I really don't know whether it would be better for you to stop Diane right now or keep taking it. Speaking long term, maybe a birth control plus spiro would be effective? I'm on Diane 35 and am thinking about adding spiro because recently I've had two nodules appear which I haven't had in the past two years..... so Diane might be becoming less effective for me.
With regards to the cysts you currently have, do you ever use a warm compress when you first notice them emerging? Sorry if that's an obvious thing and you've tried it but thought I'd mention it because I recently started doing it and it works pretty well for me, along with taking ibuprofen. It doesn't make them go away right away but they don't get as massive and inflamed.
i will second that ibuprofen works well for the cysts as well as aleve but just know that most likely just taking birth control or even spiro wont keep you clear. you need to use an aha or bha pretty much daily to keep those pores clear as well as a good cleanser and a toner. or you can go the retinoid route that will work to keep the pores clear and to stop the skin cells from sticking together.

Nah I haven't tried the warm compresses yet. This is new for me, I never used to have to deal with this before. So I need all the information i can get right now, no matter how obvious. I actually never had cysts before I took Yaz for a year. Thanks for all the help!

I'll try ibuprofen. When I was on BC in my teens Diane alone kept me perfectly clear, even after I stopped taking it. It completely 100% fixed my problem, and I only took it for 3 months or so. That is until I turned 18. After that, I went on Yaz for protection, not acne (still clear at that point). Took Yaz for a year, came off, then in a few months for the first time in my life broke out in cysts. So I went back on it. Again, perfectly clear. But then 7 months later it began to get worse. But it wasn't too bad at all. Then I went on a trip overseas and forgot my pack. So I stopped for 2 weeks, and when I came back I started a new pack in the middle of the cycle (the worst decision of my life). So I began breaking out in bad ones, like everyday. I stuck to Yaz for 2 more months, it didnt improve. I then quit because I couldnt take it anymore. The first month off was a little better, but I got even bigger cysts. Month 2 and 3 was worse and even more worse respectively. So I decided to go on Diane. Very stupid of me to do it without checking my hormones, but I don't have insurance, and am broke, so I was trying to save money, hoping I would get it right). I did not. After one month on Diane, here I am starting a new pack breaking out in big ones every 2-3 days, up from once a week during my 3rd month off the pill, before diane. So I guess thats my story.
things can change all the time so just taking the pill before might have kept you clear but that doesnt mean it will work that way now. there are products on this site that are pretty cheap you can buy to help your skin since you cant get to the derm. i would say to get some antibiotics to clear up what you have going on now but since you cant get to the doc that would probably cost too much.

I have sensitive skin prone to broken capillaries. Salicylic acid usually wrecks havoc on my skin, I haven't dared to try BP. Do you think I should still go for it?
Also, my derm loves me for spending a fortune on laser years ago, lol. He provides free consultations. Should I go? The reason I havent so far is because I've always been convinced my acne is hormonal and it makes more sense to see an obgyn. But I am iffy about antibiotics. Would they affect my hormones?
i get those too i get ipl's to get rid of them but bp should be fine. i cant use salicylic acid either but my skin loves glycolic acid so i use a glycolic acid toner daily. if you go that route you need to make sure you wear spf daily.
i go to a derm for all my acne issues they were the ones that suggested i start spiro last year. it was the best decision i ever made but i made sure i got on antibiotics with the spiro to take care of the breakouts until it kicks in. they sometimes do that with birth control too so you would take them for say 3 months or so then wean off. i dont think they affect hormones at least for me they dont but i dont know enough about that stuff to really talk about it.
