OK. So I think I FINALLY figured out why I have been getting horrible, painful, HUGE cystic acne on my chin! Eversince I had Mirena placed, I have been getting painful, ugly, depressing acne!
I also gained 30lbs!!!!!!!!! While I LOVE Mirena for the fact that I dont get my monthly gift anymore, I am having it removed due to the disgusting, painful, cystic acne on my face and my HUGE amount of weight gain! I really would not recommend Mirena to anyone. I NEVER, EVER, even had 1 pimple in High School. I am now 34 yrs old with painful, HUGE, cystic acne ALL OVER my CHIN area! It is so painful and let alone embarrassing! Also, I have absolutely BLOWN up over a short amount of time. I have gained 30lbs in 2 MONTHS!!!!!!!!! That is beyond dangerous and I feel like a PIG! NONE of my gorgeous clothes fit me! I would NOT recommend Mirena to anyone. It is awesome to not get a period, but to me, the side affects are NOT worth it at ALL!
I've had the same kind of bad luck with Mirena. Had it placed July 2012 and gained about 25 lbs. Developed cystic acne all over my face but especially on my cheeks. I went on a course of Accutane and had my mirena removed at the 4 month mark of accutane. The cysts never completely went away although they are fewer in number. I've been off of Accutane for 3 weeks now and have had very little progress in the way of getting completely clear. In total since having my Mirena put in, I've had only three days of clear skin.
I had my Mirena placed in 2010 and it was taken out about 5 months ago. I was getting cystic acne the entire time, but in the third year, it was getting severe. My entire jawline was just covered in cysts. It was also starting to travel down my neck-- something I had never experienced before. I got the IUD removed and stayed off birth control for about 3 1/2 weeks. During this time, I saw a slight improvement in my skin. I decided I should probably be on a birth control, so I started taking Beyaz. My acne started to improve in about a month-- with a couple breakouts in between. My skin still isn't perfect and I just started on my 5th pack, but it is SO much better than when I had the Mirena in. I recently got a breakout during my period, but only ended up with about 4 new spots instead of a dozen. My dermatologist said that since I've seen improvement on Beyaz, I can probably expect to only see more improvement.
I also want to add that-- other than the acne problem-- I got the Mirena removed because I was so lethargic and moody with the Mirena. I felt terrible and not myself. I was angry all the time. After getting it removed and starting Beyaz, I feel so much more like myself.
