Hi: I have a pretty bad/big cystic acne on my chin under my mouth starting mid Feb, it finally heal early march but it leaves a small red bump. and then after few days, there is another cystic acne break out next to this and make this red bump inflamed and grow bigger and redder again. It finally goes down at the end of march (about 2 weeks ago), but it leaves this red bump just will not go away. I never had this issue before, normally the cystic acne will just completely flatten in a few weeks. Does anyone know why this red bump linger for so long? Is this a raised scar? and what should I do to make it disappear? thanks!

It sounds like it could be a recurrent cystic lesion to me, particularly perhaps a true cyst, which means it has a full wall around it under the skin. This type of lesion can fill up, then go down, then fill up again, etc.

There are some treatments for it, and a cortisone injection is a common one.

@dan Thank you so much! will ask my derm do a cortisone shot. I have my next Derm visit in 1 month, would it be too late? should I schedule an earlier one?

That's up to you, but I always feel nothing is really more important than our faces! So if it were me I'd try to get in sooner, but that's just me. Most important is that you're in the hands of someone experienced and skilled. And...I wouldn't just ask for a cortisone shot. Instead, I would tell them what's going on and see what they say is the appropriate treatment. If you ever feel at all kinda uneasy about whether you're in good hands, go get a second opinion, cuz...again...it's your face!
