Hi new here so a little back story never really suffered with spots (the occasional one every now and then) and never really paid much attention to skincare. I've always had oily skin. Early February I noticed I was getting dry skin on my face after showering (new house I should add) so I decided to get a moisturizer and look into skincare a bit more I started using L'Oreal men expert but was advised not to use scrubs as they are harsh on skin and alot of people recommended Paula's choice so I began to use Paula's choice pore normalising cleanser for about 2 weeks am and pm and Paula's choice pore reducing toner. But noticed it started to make me spotty so I stopped using it and just washed with warm water. Now my skin is awful I'm getting new spots daily on cheeks, forehead, hairline and temples. My whole face basically looks red and spotty 🙁 even got a couple of Whitehead's appear on my chin last night at work. New spots are just popping up daily and I have no idea what to do about it. I never suffered with spots before trying skincare. Is it possible I've completely ruined my skin. Before I barely even washed my face just with water in the shower daily or every other day but my skin was pretty flawless. I only wanted to try skincare to help with my large pores but now I basically have acne. Any suggestions on a way to get my skin back how to it used to be? I stopped using any products over 2 weeks ago but spots just keep on breaking out every day.
This is quite unusual. Adult men usually don't start seeing acne like that. My thoughts on what it could be:
- You overly irritated your skin with all the new products. It can take a couple of weeks for pimples to form, so maybe everything will calm down soon if you keep doing nothing.
- It's something else, like it's springtime so you started using a sunscreen maybe? There are some really pore clogging products out there.
- Physical irritation. Have you been randomly physically irritating your skin in some say? This is often the culprit.
If you're an adult man and didn't have acne, it's unlikely that it's a hormonal issue (unless you started doing anything hormonal from your doc?). If I were you, I'd probably do the regimen and get clear and then once I'm back to completely clear, do the regimen just once a day, then every other day, then...you get the picture...less and less until you're back to normal and can do nothing at all and stay clear.
Thank you for replying haven't started wearing any sunscreen or anything that would change my hormones :/ or even anything that would irritate the skin I'm very careful to not touch my face of even rest my face in my hands. It's getting worse by the day and I haven't use any products for over 3 weeks now
I should also add a couple of the red marks that look like large spots don't even seem to be spots. They are like tiny little dark coloured blood vessels with the red skin around them so they look like spots. Also I spoke to my GP and they wouldn't do a referral to a dermatologist. So there is literally no way I can see one where I live
This is wacky!
First of all, what the heck about not getting a referral to a derm?! Why not? I would push for that.
When you're talking about little blood vessels, that makes me think rosacea, but I feel like it's shooting in the dark a little. I think you should see a good dermatologist.
Also, I wonder if this could be an allergy or reaction to something. Medications can cause sudden onset of weirdness like that. And allergic reactions to soap ingredients or detergent could also do that. Keep racking your brain about anything new that has come into your life. If/When you see a derm, I'm sure they'll ask that anyway, so good to really keep thinking about it.
You have to be on deaths door for the doctor's to do anything where I live. And to see a private dermatologist would involve travelling along way catching 2 boats and end up costing me over a thousand which I cannot afford. It's really disheartening. The last couple of days I thought my skin was looking better some of the pink patches had gone down or away, no new spots. Even last night it looked ok now this morning I've gotten in from work and I have new spots, my skin looks awful and the patchey bits are a really dark red 🙁 nothing new diet is the same, medication is the same
My skin just looks angry. I did get the sample pots from Natural Elements. So you get calming face wash, oil and moisturizer for rosacea and Hypoallergenic facewash, oil and moisturizer for sensitive skin. I think I might try the calming ones see if they make any difference
Angry is a good way to put it. It does look kinda angry. I rarely say this, but in your case, I wonder if doing absolutely nothing might be interesting. Not even washing. Pretending you are a wild animal who gets rained on once in a while and that's it. So basically, washing your body in the shower but not really getting your face involved in any washing at all, and not even a lot of water even. No shaving either. You can clip, but no shaving. No products whatsoever. I only say this because it doesn't look like you're breaking out. It more looks like you just have redness and some sort of reaction to something or other.
And...as far as a derm goes, why not do telemedicine? No travel involved, and worst case, I believe you can even just pay out of pocket and it shouldn't be too crazy for telemedicine I don't think.
