Hi,

I was on accutane for 8 months, nowI have hot flushes in the evening almost everyday. It appens randomly, and even in cold rooms I can flush.

It goes away during the summer, which I find weird, since you'd think warmer weather would cause more flushing.

I am male 21 years old, took it feb 2022 - october 2022. I was 18 - 19 years old.

I am endlessly thankful for any help or insights. Have a good day.

Intriguing!

What part of your body do you have flushes? Do you take anything with niacin? What is the situation in the evening that it usually happens?

@snipzie

It's really my whole body that can become sweaty sometimes, not all the time though. My face is the part of the body that gets sweaty the most, and that happens with every flush.

I don't take any niacin supplements.

It can happen anytime in time evening. Since I mostly sit by the computer in the evening it usually happens there, but I can happen in any other situation aswell.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi...(I dont know how to tag a member) how is your acne at this point?

I didn't ask...do you feel more axious, agitated or extremely emotionally excited while on the computer in the evenings?

In doing some reading, it appears that accutane could have extended effects on male hormones. In the event now that you're having flushes regularly and during a particular time of day, it could be hormonal related. It seems evenings and night when the body system changes to relax mode or sleep...it's not as easy to regulate body temp if some hormones are low or high.

You did mention not in summer...if you're outside and in the sun a lot, it could be related to a better vitamin D level. Low Vitamin D can affect testosterone and other male hormones.

My suggestion is for you to discuss this with your family doctor and request a hormonal, thyroid, glucose and vitamin D check. Considering it's a specialised event re timing with specific symptoms, it shouldn't be considered as a normal thing for you. Plus, the fact that you were on accutane, it should be checked regardless.

Do a search for info and create a list of concerns and requests and be prepared for the appt. Your doc might send you to an endocrinologist for further testing if required. Keep us updated.

I have checked my male hormones once after accutance, they were fine. I have also been to the endocrinologist and gotten checked for it, however the tests were done in the summer and then once again in recently, but I didn't have any sympoms during that period, a two week span. The test didn't show anything. During that two week span my life was quite calm. It is possible that this is stress related, which would also explain why it gets better in the summer. Though I have heard some, not many, who have had the same symptoms as mine . During my accutane treatment I experienced a lot of sweating, which caused me a lot of anxiety, it is possible that these people also did that and therefore have developed some sort of panic disorder from it like me.

My life is quite stressful, I'm studing computer science at uni. Last month I decided to purchase both a TENS for vagus nerve stimulation and aswhaganda supplements. I'm not sure if it works yet, it's to early to tell but maybe my symptoms are less frequent and less severe when they do happen (not as much sweating). If symptoms persist I will probably do an extensive bloodtest at a private clinic.

One thing that's interesting is that symptoms can come earlier in the day if I have had alcohol the day before, which could support my panic/stress/anxiety hypothesis.

I might keep this thread updated just so that others in the same position as me can learn from me.

Hi...thanks for the extra info. I can imagine how computer science courses would be stressful.

You could consider biofeedback and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy...maybe worth a try.

Definitely keep us updated...all the best during your studies.
