Hi,
I've had acne soon for about 10 years. I first got it at the age of 13 and I will be 23 years old this year. I still struggle with it and it certainly has a big affect on my confidence.
I'm simply wondering that how likely is that I will grow out of it? I feel like I rarely see males my age or older with acne and feel quite awkward about it. Has anyone here struggled with acne for a long time and just at some point it went away? Like many people here, I've tried many things and the only thing that worked for me was isotretinon, but the effects did not last long for me. I barely notice any improvement since I was a teenager. Topical treatments don't seem to have any affect on me.
I'm not looking for any advice - the end result is always the same. I just want to hear the truth. How likely is it that my skin will heal itself at some point?
It's extremely likely that you will grow out of it. When you look at the data, less people have acne with every passing decade of life. This article will give you the real scoop.
If I were to sum it all up in one sentence, I would say it's about hormones more than anything and that as you get older your hormone levels diminish and so does your acne.
I wonder the same thing. And I'm in a very similar situation to you. I'm 24 and have struggled with acne since I was 12. I've been seeing a dermatologist for years and he put me on Accutane as a last resort since nothing else worked. So far the Accutane hasn't done much for me but it might work for you.
If you are at the point where I'm at, where you are just sick of having acne, then you must do anything you can to get rid of it. Which is why when I'm done with the Accutane I'm going to have to spend a bunch of money on acne removal surgery like Subscision, Micro Needling and maybe even lasers. It kinda sucks I'm going to have to spend all this money just to have clear skin like seemingly everyone else my age has but I think confidence and feeling good about yourself is pretty priceless.
Good luck and things will get better. If you are really serious about this then there are treatments that will finally get rid of your acne they just can be costly. Talk to your dermatologist.
I have used isotretinon aka accutane and it did clear my face after 8 months of use but the acne slowly crept back in. I wont probably try it out again since I don't believe it will clear my skin permanently and the possible lifelong side-effects dont make it worth trying (I wouldn't mind them if it actually worked). I could pay some hundreds for a method that is guaranteed to work, but even a 10 minute appointment to dermatologist costs over 100 .
I'm currently trying out exposed skin care kit but I've had it only for 12 days so I can't comment any further if it works
Currently I eat scrambled eggs, cucumber and coconut milk yogurt for breakfast, usually chicken with rice or noodles for dinner and for supper I have been recently eating some carrots and same coconut milk yogurt. I'm aware of possible inflammation caused by foods, but I have not noticed anything that particularly would flare my skin up and I've already tried to drop some things out without any noticeable affect.

Hmm many of those may or may not be causing a reaction. If you ever want more information about how diet affects acne let me know.
I think this topic is something every acne sufferer thinks about, and so do I. I'vehad moderate acne since I was in my teens, now im 23 male. I've been using the regimen for 3 years now. The regimen keeps me 95% clear but comes withannoying side-effects, redness and flakiness. So even though I might not have acne now due to regimen, my face is red all the time which is almost as embarrassing. I totally agree with the original poster, none of my male friends have acne which makes it kinda embarrassing for me. Even my twin brother doesn't have acne anymore, and he used to have a lot in his teens. So I kinda think he has outgrown acne because he isn't using any treatments. I hope that my time will come soon.
In my opinion acne is equal to cancer (okay maybe not), but still, it is insane how acne affects ones confidence and everything around it. I would easily pay 10k to have even normal skin...
@gutskinaxisPlease, I would like to hear your knowledge regarding the food - acne connection.
I believe persistent inflammatory acneis caused by food intolerances and leaky gut.
I believe are immune cells are reacting against certain food proteins, causing a chain reaction that then leads to acne formation.

Okay interesting. How have you managed to combat this? Regarding food, which food have you noticed that triggers acne? And how about the leaky gut?

Basically you should be wary of any foods with seed storage proteins or proteins that have lots of prolines/glutamines that are difficult to break down, I've written a book about this you can find in my signature
Legumes, wheat, corn, soy, oats, eggs, milk could all be potential triggers

Interesting... Never heard of this before actually. If all those you listed could be potential triggers, one should leave A LOT of food out of their diet...
