Hello all,
First let me say over the years I found so many great answers to all my acne related questions on this forum! Thanks to all and especially those who might comment on this question.
I suffered a chemical burn a few days ago from a new acne product that proved to be to much with the treatment plan I was on. I used it as a spot treatment and it burned a dime sized patch of skin on my cheek with irregular borders. The skin was very dark and crusty, almost scabby.
I was advised by my derm to wash it gently twice a day with Cetaphil and keep it covered with Laroche Posay Cicaplast balm. I've used both product before and they work great for my skin.
The dry ''scab'' softened almost to goo-like texture and the color improved. But while I was gently washing it (and I was as gentle as can be) part of it lifted. The skin underneath is dark pink (I am very light skinned and prone to PIH so no surprise here), it's not raw and does not ooze or bleed.
However the border of the original irregular burn/scab is still visible and the skin underneath is slightly indented. I'm afraid it's going to cause a boxcar-type scar, which I have a few of. I feel like the softened scab should not have lifted yet.... 2 days is not enough for it to heal.
What should I do? Continue with the Cicaplast and washing? Stop washing it?
I've cured a few ''scabby'' patches (in fact some of them worse than this) in the past with hydrocolloid bandages, should I give it a go? I try to exercise caution and not over treat it, but the prospect of a big indented boxcar scar is not bringing me joy....
Thank you !
(P.S I'm not calling my derm back because he charges me everytime and sadly I can't afford to spend more on this injury, unless absolutely necessary ...)
Uhh, I suggest you not diagnosing yourself and try a treatment that might nkt be right for you. Secondly it is a cgemical burn chances are itll fade a bit, but the mark will linger. If it isnt that bad itll go away within the next few months just like how hyper pigmentation works.
Just try not to rip the scab anymore its to be expected to look pink freshy because its new skin regrowing.
Thanks for the input, although it's not hyperpigmentation I'm worried about. As I said, I'm very fair-skinned, so I'm used to dealing with lingering marks and spots.
It's been 7 days and new skin has not really grown on top of the pink/red mark that is definitly indented. I'm not sure how skin regeneration really works, but I had hope by the time the ''scab'' lift off completely (it has), the skin underneath will be flat, i.e the skin of the injury aligned with the rest of my face. I continue with my regimen but I'm legit scared it's atrophic scarring in the making...
Usually if its a indented i jury there will be a dent just because you rip the scab off it doesnt mean itll be completely flat right away. Itll probably take some months for the skin to smoothen out itself. I stabbed myself accidentally with a kitchen knife that went in 3/4 inch deep and wide but it healed. Just give it time and I think putting something like a bandage like yiu said might help prevebt the scab from falling off. All in all you just have to hope for the best. Take vit A and E to help wih skin regen.
