Hey guys, ive been coming to these forums looking for some advice for a while now. Only now that my breakouts have become a problem I cannot handle I needed to make a topic for some personal advice.

Ive been having acne for the better part of 8-9 years now (started around grade 10) and I am now 23 and still unable to control my breakouts. There have been periods of time in my life that it has been much clearer but it has always been there since i was about 14. Recently ive got a case of , well I really dont know what. I have basically no acne on my forehead, i do get a zit or two inbetween my eyebrows but other than that it is all on my chin/jawline/mouth area. Used to have bacne/chest acne a few years back and that has resolved besides blackheads on my chest. Ive been told hormones, diet, stress, etc are all causes of acne but recently I have changed my diet (no dairy , eating alot more vegetables and fruits than before, very conscious of foods that I know will not be good for my skin) and there is no beating these breakouts. I also have been trying a new face wash procedure, rinse with water in morning, toner, astringent, benzoyl peroxide,  after work shower and cleanse with carbolic soap, and same toner astringent benzoyl procedure, before bed i usually wash with carbolic soap again and the same procedure. I have been on this procedure for the 2 months or more and the acne is getting worse. And worse.. Is there something bigger to this problem? I went to a family doctor and he told me in his own words "you're doing everything you can" after I told him the products I was using. He then prescribed me a stronger benzoyl peroxide to use and a 2x daily pill and told me to see him again in 6 weeks. I'm now nearly half a week in and acne breaks out as i wake up, when I get off work, and before bed. Almost religiously my skin will break out once a day and I need to pop white pimples.

ive changed my diet , almost no dairy, very little junk food, and mainly eat sandwiches  for lunch and then vegetables for dinner. I also work construction, which obviously is a dirty sweaty job and doesnt help my acne at all... After work I often see zits have already rose to the surface of my skin throughout the day. This is also my first out of town job - eating is proving to be much more difficult as I cannot cook like I would at home. Does eating less effect acne ?

I take vitamin d everyday and Emergen-C vitamin supplement. Are there other vitamin supplements I should be trying ?

just looking for any advice on why my breakouts would be occuring at this age, ive done this job for a couple years now and it did make my acne worse but not like this. Could it simply be hormonal?? I would consider myself an aggressive personality and ive often thought maybe a surplus of testosterone could be having an effect on my acne. Really any positice advice at this point would be appreciated. I understand acne is different for everyone and Im trying to figure out my solution.

It is definitley not abnormal for you to be breaking out at 23. Some people, like myself still break out and i just turned 35. It is hard to say what supplements to take, especially if we don't know what is the main factor driving your acne (nutritional, hormonal, allergy, etc).

It may help to add in zinc, probiotics (if you're taking an antibiotic which i suspect those doctor prescribed pills are and a fish oil/cod liver oil for overall health. The diet thing is tricky, especially with being on the road so much. Have you tried taking out gluten (can be difficult depending on the availability of products) or regulating your glycemic load (the amount of carbs you are eating at each sitting)? On the skin care front, there are so many products that you have not tried so i would recommend you get a referral for a derm. A BP wash doesn't stay long enough on the skin to penetrate so you may need a topical at night that stays on all night (ex: Epiduo, Retin A, Atralin, Aczone, etc).

Believe me when i say i get how frustrated you are. I've been dealing with this since I was 16 and i'm still struggling.

Good Luck with everything. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks for the reply. Currently im doing experiments with my diet to pinpoint what it is.. Ive been off most dairy for 2 weeks now, and Im not seeing a huge change. Next week im going to try 2 weeks without dairy or gluten.

zinc and fish oil could be a good idea for overall health, and I will look into getting a daily dose of those.

Diet is a slow process so don't get discouraged if you don't see results for months. Acne is a unique beast and it can involve much trial and error. Please keep us posted.
