Unless you have severe, widespread, and scarring acne, The Regimen is normally my suggestion for the most effective acne treatment.

Is it worth seeing a dermatologist (in Canada) for pigmentation problems?

Here in Canada, there's a notoriously long wait list to see a dermatologist. It can take as long as four months to get an appointment.

My primary concern is scarring, speficially PIE/PIH that is fading extremely slow. I got the scarring from using too many actives all at once and as a result, I had a painful bout of cystic acne. When I stopped using exfoliants, I no longer had acne but the discolouration is still there.

What I'm doing is using a sunscreen every day and I can see a noticeable improvement but again it's very slow. Is it even worth the time to see a dermatologist (who will probably suggest a chemical peel)?

Thanks.

PIE/PIH are NOT scars. They are pigmentation issues. They will naturally fade over time. However, if you want to get rid of them fast, I suggest you get a V-Beam laser (google it for more info). You can also apply Hydroquinone (skin whitener) or Rosehip Oil.

Sunscreen is the best way to protect the skin and let pigmentation fade. It does take a while, though. Retinoids can increase cell turnover. So can gently exfoliating and moisturizing.
