Hey everyone,

I know this may seem pathetic, and by no means am I looking for any sympathy, I just need some motivational words/positive stories in regards to acne and self confidence. I have had terrible self esteem issues for a long time now and acne doesnt help! Im incredibly pale and every blemish looks terrible. Not only that but the scars and hyperpigmentation left behind dont make it any better. Talking about having incredibly fair skin, Im also blessed (sarcasm) to have extreme veiny dark under eye circles which make me look sickly. Pairing that with acne really knocks my self esteem, especially since its very noticeable and the first thing people see is your face!

I have been taking Prescription accutane for 3 months now (10mg a day) and Im very grateful to say that Im not really breaking out anymore *touch on wood*. I still have quite a bit of indentation scaring and redness remaining.
As much as I try and remind myself that things are getting better, I still feel absolutelyterrible and hate myself for it. I know theres a lot worse in the world and I remind myself to count my blessings, but I just cant seem to avoid seeing myself each and everyday and nit picking everything problematic or wrong. Have you got any words of wisdom or any personal experiences that helped you overcome the turmoil of acne? How do I learn to not care what people may think of me?

Also, do you have any advice or tips on lightening hyperpigmentation left over from acne?

Any replies would be muchly appreciated!

What you're going through is normal! It can be hard when all you notice are your flaws. I don't know if you have an instagram but something that helps me are looking at accounts of beautiful woman that embrace their acne and continue to be positive and confident. There arnt a lot of lot role models for girls and women with acne or skin troubles in traditional media but it's so common. Sounds like you're making great progress on the accutane as well!!

What your wrote sounds like myself about 2 months ago. I still struggle emotionally at times with acne, but I have started adapting a 'I don't care' what people think attitude.

If someone judges you based on appearance alone then they aren't worth your time.

Try pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. I went to a couple of interviews with acne and hyperpigmentation everywhere. Once I done the interviews I felt I can do anything. Don't let This disease define you as a person, because as a person we all have and mean so much more our skin.

Hey, it's ok to feel bad about things that affect you, even if you know other people have problems that are worse than yours. You can't always help how you feel. You can, however, acknowledge your feelings and try to work through them. I'm sure there are a lot of really neat things about you. We always notice our flaws and often other people are so involved and focused on their own problems, they don't notice yours.

Some people seem to born with the skill of not caring what other people think about them, but from my experience it takes some practice to get to that point. Just keep working on it.
