Hi all,
Ive been battling something on my forehead for the past 11 months. Ive tried everything from Aczone to Adapalene, birth control (which I went off of for nine months because I was still getting acne). My period never returned so I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome. I then started seeing a functional medicine/naturopath who said I had Candida and heavy metals. I tried the natural route for many months including 10-12 supplements and acupuncture, but the acne remains. I read online it may be folliculitis, but dont really know for sure and the dermatologist isnt very helpful. I have recently tried oregano oil on the lesions as well. About to try lamisil for athletes foot since its an anti-fungal. I also am vegan so not eating hormonal foods such as dairy and meats. Have tried gluten free diet and started candida diet yesterday.
Forgive the horrid photos.
Any insight? Thanks!

It could be digestion related. do you suffer from bloating or any other digestive discomfort a lot? You could also try a probiotic. Also cut out sugar and grains and high carbs for better digestion. I know the emotional effects of acne, it sucks. Im currently on accutane day 20 and my face is a mess. If nothing else does work you could see a derm to be prescribed accutane. I know that probiotics help kill candida as well as a no sugar low carb diet. I have read that forehead acne and candida/digestion are related. I hope this helps

I definitely do suffer from frequent bloating and gas and stomach aches. When I cut out gluten it helped sooooo much. Was hoping it would clear my skin too, but nope! I am definitely trying the sugar free, low carb diet though. Day 2. Haha! I will see about a probiotic once I get through the cancandida cleans phase. Thank you! How's the accutane? Any side effects?

That could be the reason behind your acne! You should start taking a probiotic with every meal once you are on a steady pace with your new diet You should also eliminate all grains even gluten free oats can cause irritation. Since you are vegan you may eat lots of lentils or grains and that can be hard on your digestion. I notice oats really giving me bloating. And the accutanes okay, I'm on low dosage at 10mg a day. My eyes are a bit dry but my lips and face haven't been too bad. I think I had a horrible IB at 2 weeks and I really hope I clear up soon!

Shoot! GF oats have been a staple. Good to know. Thanks! Do you currently take a probiotic? Any recommendation? Hope you heal soon!

I know its hard! I loved my oats in the morning. I get acne around my mouth and cheeks since it is hormonal but get few on my forehead and ever since cutting out oats and lentils, I only have one healing pimple on my forehead. My digestion has really improved. And I take one by Jameson 1 billion you can get it at any shoppers or Walmart. I live in Canada. Its a good dosage to start off with since you may have candida you don't want to get a die off
As well as your dietary changes maybe try topical azelaic acid 20% combined with 5% benzoyl peroxide and plant derived squalene as a moisturiser and a sulphur based cleanser. This really helped me! Also are you being treated for PCOS? For example metformin? PCOS can cause acne due to the imbalance in hormones that was what happened to me. I see Accutane as a last result due to the risk to the liver, however I wouldn't rule it out if you have tried so many things I nearly did take it myself but I found other methods luckily.

I have pcos, I was wondering how you got prescribed the metformin? My doctor didn't mention it. I eat a really healthy diet and havent seen much improvement in my skin but I think it'll take at least a couple months for my hormones to settle.

Just picked up a probiotic from Natural Grocers as well as some digestive enzymes (Canidex). Fingers crossed!

Thanks so much! Any brand suggestions on the products?
The gyno put me back on BC even though I had acne while on it. Suddenly onset around Christmas of last year. I decided to take a break from it and my acne seemed to get worse and I didn't get a period the entire 10+ months. I just had lab work done and my testosterone is high. Hense the PCOS. I'm a hot mess. Lol! So gyno put me on different BC pill. No metformin as of yet. Should be getting my first period in a year soon. TMI, sorry. But from some of the research, BC pills may cause Candida?? Bleh. Can't win.
