Are you applying the tea tree oil on straight from the bottle? I recommend diluting it in water or using a cleanser that has tea tree oil already in it. A few years back I applied tea tree oil straight from the bottle and it left something similar to a stain; without dilution, tea tree oil is pretty strong.
