Same here.
Never ever ever had any acne in my life ever. (28yo, bloke). Had started vaping, now I've got a skin like a person with a skin condition. I was hesitant about vaping and its side effects as it appears there's not much studies done at all. On top of the acne, my gum started bleeding as well.
I am planning to stop vaping and not getting any form of nicotine at all.
If I get any result, I will definitely come back and let others know here.
Does anyone know what in a vape pen may cause acne? And does this apply to medical marijuana in vape pen form? My daughter uses a MM vape pen due to a brain injury and I'm wondering if its causing her horrible (for the first time in her life, she's now 23) acne. Just wondering what the cause is if its due to the vape pen?
OK, I'm actually grateful to see this entire thread. I'm 39 years old. I've had the occasional pimple, but always really clear, smooth skin (only now, I see how lucky I've been). In fact, just one year ago, I was getting lovely compliments on my skin (I noticed, because I'm getting older).
But in the past 6 months...the vaping seems to affect the redness in my face, and even the circulation in my fingertips (sometimes they turn white near the tips, which can be a bit alarming). The VUSE cartridges also leak, sometimes...meaning I have to wipe my mouth and the cartridge out to continue using it). I'm smoking 2 cartridges of VUSE per day, that's 4.8% nicotine, or roughly 48mg of nicotine per cartridge, and though I've been using ecigs for a long time (Safe Cig, then V2, now VUSE) I started breaking out around my mouth and cheeks. I assumed it was a rash at first, but now I see tiny white pustules (sp?) and it's red and still looks a little like a rash. Now, the "rash/pimples" are slowly spreading up my cheeks, and even above my eyebrow since I took three days of vigorously scrubbing it (I've been freaking out that it won't go away), it's only getting worse. It's awful. I can't stop touching or picking at it....I have no idea what's happened to my face. I'm seriously considering dropping the VUSE. I may have to give it a real shot (preparing for major mood swings and melt-downs, here)....I'll keep you all posted.
Derm wasn't sure what it was...he was vague, and just recommended the standard advice: "use a gentle cleanser, don't scrub, yada yada), but I also didn't admit to him that I vaped, either. But I have been wondering if something in the e-cigs are making it worse. Anyway, I hope to learn more. It's driving me nuts. Horrible.

Horrible.
Vaping lots of nic is very common. I also reached very unnatural levels of nicotine intake with my vape - 40+ mg/day. It's extremely hard to reach that kind of nic intake with regular cigs I think (2 packs). Definitely experienced withdrawal symptoms when I quit (especially sleep disturbances and strange bouts of brain fogginess/nervousness). 50mg+ a day is a lot.
Nicotine by itself seems to be very bad for the skin (and other things). Just look up the askapatient page on nicorette, which is just a gum with pure nicotine in it. People experiencing hair loss, wrinkles, depression, losing teeth and all sorts of other issues JUST BY INGESTING NICOTINE ORALLY, which also is probably even healthier than vaping it in your lungs.
O my goodness same here!!! This seems so common on this thread yet its not proven. I stopped smoking june 2018 and started to vape so its been about 6 months. I didn't put the 2 & 2 together but my skin was getting much worse. I tried rotating different skin cleaners that typically would clear my skin (in the past) but they weren't working anymore and acne spots taking a LONG LONG time to heal! I never had acne on my chest, but did after vaping!!
Well... my vape broke and didn't have the money to replace it and after 5 days of only using my boyfriends vape maybe 2 times a day i noticed my skin clearing up and spots that had been attempting to heal for nearly a month were finally healing in just a few days!!! Its been about 2 weeks and no new spots are showing up! Lets hope i dont jinx myself, I still use my boyfriends vape 1-2 times a day but not having it in my hands 24/7 has helped tremendously.
if anyone has had luck in figuring out how to vape and solve this please let me know because i miss my vape but my skin is healing too well right now to go back to how bad it got!
best of luck!!
I am so happy I found this post!!! I'm pretty sure the JUUL is what is causing my cystic acne all over my cheeks and jawline. (Before and after below--sorry the after is scary) I was an avid ZYN user around last year and my skin was completely fine until I switched to the JUUL, which I have been hitting on a daily basis for about 3 months. Over the course of that time, my skin has become progressively worse and no topical treatments, diet changes or supplements have made any improvements. I've come to the point where I avoid social situations and have become depressed over the sudden change in my skin, but still never made a connection to my skin and the JUUL. I've cried almost EVERY DAY to my boyfriend about the state of my skin until recently, he entertained the possibility of the JUUL being the cause my acne. I researched and found this thread, and for the sake of my skin, am stopping the JUUL as of today. I will be back to let you know of any improvement in my skin!!
Hey guys. I have attached a photo of around one month after quitting the JUUL. I do occasionally use it on the weekends, but not multiple times a day, every day like before. I haven't changed anything else besides that and the result speaks for itself. Just trying to get rid of the hyper pigmentation now!! Good luck everyone.
I just joined here to post this; long story short vaping definitely created bad cystic acne on my face, even leaving scars I quit vaping and it stopped completely my skin is clear two weeks later.
I was smoking cannabis not tobacco (it's legal here) so its not the product itself it seems to be something native to the vaping system IE: the metals that get cooked maybe lead(!) like some media outlets have recently been warning about when the cartridge gets low and hot you can taste a distinct metal tinge so Im thinking the acne was my canary in the coal mine - anyway my vaping gear is in the trash - no more!
Much like others on here Ive never signed up or commented on forums like this before, but after reading this thread I felt compelled to do so and share my experience too.
Ive always suffered with acne since the age of about 13. I undertook a course of roaccutane in my 20s which cleared my skin up completely. That was until I started vaping.
Ive been vaping for about 4 years now. I love it. It helped me to stop smoking for good, but at the same time I enjoyed it.
Istarted to get acne around my mouth and chin not long after I started vaping. Just a few spots to begin with, but over time more and more. They wouldnt shift no matter what treatments I tried. It got to the point where I just wanted it to end. Id had enough. I had awful thoughts of just stripping my skin away to rid myself of these painful spots.
So I went to the doctor as a last resort, who prescribed me with some antibiotics and new cream. The spots disappeared overnight. For about 6 months I was back to my old self again, confident and outgoing. That was until the spots returned. This time itchy cystic acne - as painful as they were unsightly.
The size and clusters of the acne was like nothing Id ever experienced before. The pain was unbearable sometimes. Again I tried everything. The antibiotics didnt touch them and they would get worse and worse. My skin is so sore from the acne and from the cleaning I subject it to to try to clear the outbreaks. I fear to touch my own face for fear of causing a breakout on that same place.
Its only recently that Ive made the connection between vaping and the condition of my skin. Largely in part as a last thing to try - I love vaping, but Id prefer healthy clear skin more, so I thought it was worth a try to see if this could be the underlying cause.
I have now taken the decision to quit vaping altogether. I stopped vaping about 11 days ago. Its been horrible to be honest, I really missed vaping, but the first few days saw a massive improvement in my skin. It was like a miracle - the cystic acne seemed to clear up overnight. I was over the moon. And the hardship of quitting vaping was easily offset by the fact my skin was clear for the first time in ages.
However the last few days have seen a return to some breakouts of acne again - Im hoping its just a matter of my body clearing itself out. Fingers crossed! I dont want to have to go through the pain of quitting vaping and not see any results from it. If this fails I have no idea what else I can try. Its so soul destroying.
Anyway, as I say, fingers crossed this works. Ill report back in a few days to update if this approach has been a success.

Two weeks and then it was clear? Ive been off vaping for about 11 days now and after an initial change in fortunes, my skin has gone bad again.
I keep telling myself I need to give it longer to flush my system out but its difficult as I miss vaping no it feels like Im just causing myself moremisery by denying myself something I enjoy doing.

Yes I wish I had taken "before" pics so you could see yourself. It was really nasty and weird it was always one-after-the-other of them appearing under my eye or near my nose and they were basically painful boils that had to come to head to burst and heal. When I quit recently it stopped! I just had never thought of the association but when I look back it did start the same time I switched from smoking (cannabis) to vaping and I was loving it, chilling but without the sore throat, the stinking up the block etc. I see folks in this thread who seem to be in denial attempting to pinpoint the TOBACCO product that will bypass this specific miscreant mystery chemical/ brand/ flavor -but as I said before- process of elimination! I truly believe it is the vaping rig itself that is the issue! The acne was my canary in the coal mine. For me it was easy to switch back to edibles and filtered pre-rolls... and it probably wont be as easy for those on tobacco... but I encourage you and those here to stay strong and STOP COLD TURKEY for a week and see for themselves.
Hi All,
I'm a science-based writer and I've beenworkingfor an e-cig for the last 2 months. I'm writing an article on vaping and acne and I stumbled across this site. I also created an account because I wanted to share some information with you all.I think I've cracked what might be causing you all so much trouble. Before I go into it, alittle about me:
- I've got a PhD in cancer research, I'm an ex smoker, and I'm very well versed in the scientific research currently available about the health effects of vaping, from my previous research and thiscurrent writing job.
- I've never had acne from vaping
So into this potentially life-changing info! Over the course of the last day or so I've been having a real dig around in the science literature about any relationship between acne and vaping. I'll summarise what I've found for you. I'm really excited and I really hope this helps some of you live and vape acne-free. I'd really like to hear if it helpsanyone.
- There's currently no published scientific research relating acne to vaping, or data anywhere on how often this effect occurs. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)
- One thing that we do know causes acne isheavy metals. The hypothesisis that because heavy metalsrequire rather a lot of antioxidant activity to clear from our bodies, we haveless antioxidants in our skin to help keep it clear and control inflammation. The result is, heavy metals can cause inflamed skin and acne in individuals that are predisposed to it. See below for the onlyresearchpapers I found on this topic:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27600928 (people with acne have higher blood levels of lead and cadmium - heavy metals)
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-01827-9 (cadmium can induce and worsenPsoriasis)
- We've all heard the news reports that certain e-cig devices can be loaded with heavy metal contaminants. These come from the coil of your e-cig.
- One of the contributors on this forum stated they started changing their coil once a week, and their acne disappeared completely.
- Could it be that you poor things with vaping-induced acne could have some heavy metal contaminantsleeching from your e-cig coil that's bringing your acneon?
I'm not sure how to prevent heavy metals from leeching out of a coil, and I don't know which brands are best and which are worst for this - e-cig coil suppliers is not my field of expertise. But what I do suggest is changing your coil, or finding out a way of getting one that doesn't generate heavy metal contaminants. I simply can't find anything else to explain why vaping could cause acne. Trust me, I'm a researcher, a scientist, I do this for my job, and I really feel like I'm onto the answer here!! I'd really like to hear what everybody's thoughts are on this. Am I barking up the wrong tree?
Happy Christmas all
on the trend of creating an account specifically for this forum, i had acne when i was a teenager, when to the dermo got treated and i would maybe see a pimple here or there, a year later i went to bootcamp where stress is constant, and had a couple pimples but nothing like I have now, i picked up vaping 3 months ago, as my job can be sometimes stressful, saw my acne get horribly worse. i am quiting vaping and will try and update to see how it goes i have horrible acne across my jawline, and it makes me extremely self concious and gives me really bad social anxiety, heres a before pic of me when i vaped its never been close to being this bad
Like many others, I just signed up for this site because of this thread. 45 year old male here. Vaped for a couple years with a cheap low power eGo type pen starter kit. Then for maybe 3 years with a mod and tank type device. The cystic acne problem started coincidentally about a month or two after starting with the mod type device; which was also around the time my vaping frequency went way up. I smoked regular cigarettes for 15 years, on and off. And never had much of a skin problem. Regular teenage zits. The occasional adult pimple, and the very infrequent cystic pimple.
Now, maybe starting at 42 or 43, the cystic acne is a real problem, and a deal breaker with vaping. Out of control deep pimples, on my forehead, temples, cheeks, and also redness and rosacea on my cheeks. I attributed it to just about everything. Too much hair product getting on my face. Stopped hair product and it didn't help. Not washing pillowcases enough. Started washing sheets and pillowcases all the time, but that didn't help. Using blankets that my dog lays on (not nasty dog blankets, and he was never dirty). Changed that habit and it still didn't help; and before I vaped the dog and blankets were never a problem. Thought it was alcohol so I quit drinking anything including the occasional glass of wine. That did nothing. Tried drinking more water. Just had to go to the bathroom more - and look in the mirror at my horrible complexion. Even though I never had any food allergies, I tried cutting out some of the dietary culprits. Of course again, no change. I never used much in the line of facial products, because they honestly clogged my pores or gave me a reaction, so I always pretty much just used a basic anti-oil cleanser. I always had moderate or higher levels of oily skin. And a simple anti-oil solution cleared that up, and any pimples. So I tried more creams and treatments - and as always that just made my skin worse.
Something I noticed is my skin is no longer oily, ever. It's all dried out actually. I was just looking at some old pictures from when I was late 30's. And actually a heavy smoker and drank quite a bit of beer and wine regularly too. My skin was 100% clear. Not a blemish. Nice color too. Now, it's just terrible. Embarrassing. Like the number one thing that would cause me to stay inside, or not even want to go out on a date. My friends or co-workers never mention my skin, but they must notice. My parents and sister notice and they always say something. I thought maybe this was an age thing, like once I hit 40 some changes would happen. But all of my guy friends are a 1 - 4 years older than me, and I've never seen any of them go though any of this.
So after looking at those pictures and thinking I do anything to look like that again, but add the 5+ years but with a clear face. I looked it up "vaping and acne" and found this thread. Day one when I read this at work - threw my work and travel battery, so there was no vape breaks at work or driving home. Got home and threw away some of my vaping supplies I was keeping, but kept the battery and tank that I mainly used - and vowed to slow down, taper off and quit. Definitely noticed the nicotine withdraw and of course vaped a little more. Now, that was nowhere nearly as frustrating as the feeling of quitting smoking for a day then going out and buying a pack. But, I need to quit this. Problem is, vaping is so much easier than cigarettes. You can easily vape all the time if you want. The idea that vaping helps you control your nicotine intake is backwards. The easiness of vaping allows you to ramp up the nicotine by vaping more and more progressively. My one cigarette on the drive to work, two cigarette breaks at work, then a few at home later. Well that has turned to vaping the whole way to work. Any chance i get when in a private office at work. The whole drive home. Then a ton while at home later. It has none of the work with cigarettes. Cigarettes you need to go outside, be careful not to burn a whole in your sweater or jacket, have somewhere responsible to ash, and dispose of the butt in some manner better than flipping it into the driveway. Vaping has none of that. Those cigarette inconveniences were a big help to not smoke so much. I'm not ready to switch back to cigarettes, but I bet if I dumped all of my vape stuff, liquids batteries and everything - that I'd go pick up a pack of Camel lights.
I'd love to see if this is the root cause. And honestly, I'm a little jaded now about the "vape community" people who I wanted to believe everything positive they say. Honestly, I've read the cure to acne from vaping is switch to VG juice. But I've also read the cure is to switch to PG. Of course, with vaping making frustrated smokers quit, they are a little delusional with vaping being this wonderful thing that can do no wrong. Acting like health professionals. Saying your lungs may hurt but it's because they are getting healthier from not smoking cigarettes, or whatever nonsense they pass around. Look at anyone who talks about vaping, juices and devices on YouTube and ask yourself if that is the kind of person you'd take health advise from. Every single one of them is the type of person who I would take their advice and do the exact opposite. Anyone whose advice I would take, would be some educated health professional who just knows I used an e-cigarette to quit smoking, and quitting smoking is good. They probably have no experience with mods, coils, juices, etc. They just know there are little fake cigarettes that have an alternate way of giving you nicotine.
I'm committed to slowing down, stopping and throwing this (actually very expensive) habit into the trash. And honestly hoping that I didn't do permanent damage to my face.
This is happening to me right now! I am so grateful I found this thread! So I have had skin problems all my life, but usually very easily covered with makeup and fairly mild. I went through a period in college where I was getting cysts, like one or two at atime but big and swollen or like a large hard lump. I attributed this to stress, which I'm sure was the culprit. Still, through fastidious skin care, I was always able to keep my skin relatively clear. When I was 38, I started breaking out on my face with little zits, which I suspected was gram negative folliculitis, and I left my dermatologist's office with a prescription for Bactrim. It was the miracle cure for me. I still had super oily skin but I almost never broke out, and due to sunscreen and 20% salicylic acid peels at home, my skin looked pretty good.
Fast forward 5 years, I was (am)43 years old, still taking the Bactrim and doing my usual skin care routine and my skin was still clear and smooth, no issues. And still smoking cigarettes, which I have off and on since I was a teenager..more on than off. About mid-November, I heard about the Juul from my daughter and decided to give it a try. I couldn't believe how much I liked it, it was so easy and convenient..and no smell! And you could do it anywhere! About 3 weeks later, I got the worst breakout I have had in 20 years, and they were all cystic in nature..the kind that just get HUGE and painful and red. I was really, really stressed out around this time and it was the holiday season, so I attributed it to stress. But my skin wasn't clearing up. So I thought maybe the Bactrim had become ineffective, which makes sense since I had been on it for so long.
After getting just one painful cyst after another I made an appointment with a dermatologist. I had already stalked this thread before as I realized that switching to the Juul coincided with my almost overnight cystic acne. I mentioned the Juul and asked if she thought there was any correlation but she just kind of shrugged it off and diagnosed me with hormonal acne, since more of it was on my chin and smile lines. She prescribed Retin A Micro, Spironolactone, and a 10% BP wash. I am now 5 weeks in and have seen little improvement. I have had about 4 or 5 cortisone injections since that time to reduce the crazy inflammation in the new cysts that pop up every few days.
Hormonal acne could be part of the culprit..and maybe Bactrim resistance. But Ipersonally STRONGLY suspect that there is an ingredient in the Juul and other e cigs that is causing this inflammatory acne response in myself and so many of you. With all of this anecdotal evidence you would think more people would be aware of this..had I known acne was a side effect of vaping I would have never picked it up as a means to quit smoking-total dealbreaker. And now I'm so stressed out and depressed by my skin that I am probably vaping more. I actually bought a pack of cigarettes tonight for the first time in months, not because I prefer them over the Juul but because I need to get nicotine in a way that doesn't make me look and feel terrible. And like so many of you said, it sucks and is really unfair. I have looked into all vegetable glycerin e juice and it seems affordable but I don't know how to do any of that shit, with the Juul you just pop the little cartridge in.
I am going to quit the Juul for a month and go back to smoking as terrible as that is. I do want to quit or find some alternative that won't break me out, but for now I'm kind of desperate. I will post the results and I hope more of you will post updates. <3
A little early to reply, but I went back to cigarettes about a week ago and rarely use the juul and my skin INSTANTLY started clearing..cysts that were forming and and swelling up immediately became less inflamed and just disappeared in a couple of days. I am certain the Juul was causing all of my skin troubles for the past 4 months. I really hope someone can figure this correlation out and that someday I can use an e cig again, but for now it's back to nasty cigarettes..I can live with that, I can't live with constant cystic acne on my face.
O my God!!! i saw this and had to register to reply. I am a 28 yr old female. I never had acne as a teenager but I've struggled with adult acne since I was 23. It was pretty moderate so it would come and go it was nothing major until my boyfriend introduced me to vaping. I was never a smoker smoker, I would smoke occasionally here and there at parties but never craved it or anything.
So i started Vaping everyday just for fun last year and slowly i began getting addicted to it. But i was convinced that this isn't bad for me so why should i stop. Then k started noticing my skin getting worse and worse, i started breaking out with the most ugliest pimples ever eventhough i was using my Tactu gel that the dermatologist prescribed.
It wasn't until I got really sick (flu) in January that I had to stop vaping for a week and I saw a HUGE DIFFERENCE ON MY FACE, my face went from bumpy and red to flawless porcelain. It then occurred to me that it was vaping that was destroying my skin. Apparently it contains alot of irritants as well as glycerol with can clog your pores. Its best blow your vape cloud upwards making sure it doesn't touch your face and it possible...try to quit vaping. Cheers.

Thanks for this info! very interesting and something to keep in mind for the future. This must be why sunscreen pretty reliably breaks me out every time i wear it on my face? I wonder if the aluminum in deodorant has any link to acne as well. This post reminds me of what I have been reading about breast implant illnessand how silicon acts as a heavy metal in the body.Very interesting stuff!
Hey guys, so i saw this post a while ago and i have came up with an answer(atleast for me) after doing some tests on myself.
Please read the whole things even though its long if you want to fix your skin, im only tryna help and 1 paragraph will not do it.
Short backstory: I first started getting small spots when i was 16 - 17, also the same time i picked up cigarettes.
And from there it just got worse and worse as i smoked more and more cigarettes. Eventually i got addicted (duh), but i didnt realize how bad my face got until i did LSD one day and caught a glimpse of my face in the rearview mirror in a car. I was fucking horrified and thats when i realized i had to do something about it. I was so traumatized by how bad my face got that i didnt wanna do anything but go home.
I tried many things, benzoyl peroxide, all kinds of facewash and moisturizers, antibiotics, pseudopsychologicalbullshit, meditation..and pretty much everything besides accutane. mean while i still smoked cigarettes/vaping not thinking anything about it.
There were somethings that worked really good for a while (few months) and i thought they were the holy grail, but eventually all those products stopped working. I'll list those incase you need some kind of temporary crutch, (ketoconazole shampoo) (epionce lyctic gel facewash) (skinfood egg white cleanser) Note * it may not work for you so try with caution. everyones skin is different.
when those products stopped working, Thats when i thought about my lifestyle choices.. My diet was a pretty good well balanced diet, i went to the gym 5-6 times a week. And then THATSwhen i realized it could be smoking. but i was sOoOooO FUCKING addicted that i kept ignoring that possibility that it could be a culprit until i couldnt ignore it any longer. It got SOOOOO bad i didnt have a choice anymore but to try and quit,.
so THEN thats when i got into JUULING.
And HOLY FUCK, juuling helped me quit so much. My face was clearing up, better skin tone etc. (FOR A LITTLE WHILE), everything was going smoothly until a few months into it. I started getting HUuUuUuuGE fucking disgusting boils and pustules, i freaked the fuck out. Also, i was going thru more and more pods at a given time as time went by. As i got more and more pimples.
I kept telling myself "IT CANT BE THE JUUL" THERES NO TERRIBLE ADDITIVES how can this cause acne? Other people who juul looks fine.
But heres what you MUST know. People react to substances differently... As you know many Asians are allergic to dairy and alcohol. When asians drink they get the "ASIAN GLOW" some people get it worse than others.
IT IS ALL IN YOUR DNA, so quit looking at other people and their experience and compare it to yours. YOU ARE NOT THE SAME PERSON. So when people say "OH JUULING DIDNT GIVE ME ACNE, SO IT CANT BE THE JUUL" they dont know SHIT (excuse my language but this frustrates the hell out of me). So just remember that, life is not fair. Some peoples bodies cannot tolerate certain things well, especially if its not natural.
NOW, this is what i tested for myself.
After i quit vaping and all tobacco related stuff for 2 weeks, and no new breakouts (at all) i smoked half a pack of cigarettes in a day.My skin fucking hated me, had 2 massive zits pop up immediately the next day, and im talking fucking MASSIVE. And some bacne as well.
After that day i waited another 2 weeks, no new breakouts so far. I bought juul pods and smoked half a pod a day for 2 days.
AND my skin broke out terribly, my skin looked dull as shit (dark spots were more visible). I would say there was like 1 massive zit, 5 - 6 regular pimples and just fucked up redness going on. Looked like a war zone tbh.
SO WHATSIN VAPES THAT ARE IN CIGS AS WELL? NICOTINE!
A lot of people talk about how nicotine is harmless, or maybe they say its beneficial or some dogshit like that.
"IT'S NOT THE NICOTINE, ITS THE ADDITIVES, ITS PG OR VG" please stfu...
Nicotine suppresses the shit out of your immune system. When your immune system is suppressed it gets confused as the T cells malfunction, it does not send correct signals to your other attacker immune cells. This means it might cause the immune system to attack the bacteria LATE in the attack, which could possibly cause deeper pimples (cystic) .It could cause your immune system to overreact or make mistakes. Basically YOU'RE ruining your immune system function, and all kinds of shit can happen. This is also what i think can cause cancer, but thats just my theory :p.
So people will say "then why do some people dont get acne when they vape?" like i said we are all different with different biology and microbiome. Some people carry certain bacteria that are opportunistic and strike when the immune system is weak or if your gut florais out of balance. Some people have no to little of that bacteria and it does not affect them as much. And MANY MANY other factors that science just cant put a finger on yet..
Nicotine constricts your blood vessels (so does caffeine and most stimulants). It makes it harder for nutrients and other important thingsto get delivered to your face and other parts of the body. So you can see why people cannot smoke a certain period of time before getting a surgery, and even after.
Nicotine also increases the growth of staphylococcus, candida, and other potentially pathogenic bacteria. Causing an imbalance of microbes in your mouth and your gut, which will cause general increase of inflammation in the body.
Nicotine gives you instant gratification, making you less likely to exercise or even move for that matter. Why would you do anything when your reward system is always fulfilled by sucking on a device? And it often causes depression/lack of motivation.
There are also studies done that about 80% of people with folliculitis (another type of acne), has somesort of compromised immune system function, HIV, or Diabetes. So basically, anything that messes up immune system function gives you a high likely hood to develop folliculitis.
If you wanna heal your face fast, put anything with nicotine down THROW that shit away.
Do what you want with this information, it is your face and your life.
Let me know if this helped you in anyway, i would like to know! GOOD LUCK!
I think the nicotine causes cystic acne. Nicotine attaches to acetylcholine receptors, and does lots of other undesirable things. People can check the scientific literature, but when I checked some years ago, I concluded that nicotine causes cystic acne.. ..Please feel free to look up the scientific literature yourselves.
Vaping caused me cystic acne as well. I had always had clear skin, even as a teenager. Smoked regular cigarettes from 17 to 29 with no skin problems. Started vaping at 29 and stopped smoking cigs- I now have been vaping every single day for the past 3 years. About six months or so into vaping, I started breaking out with cystic acne. They are pimples that form deep under the skin and are red and painful. They take about a week to come to the surface to be popped, and then several days more until they heal. I normally have about three at a time and as soon as one goes away another one starts. I have tried everything from different face washes, masks, cleaning pillow cases more often, stopped wearing makeup all with no effect. I stopped vaping 5 days ago and nonew pimples or cysts have started and my old ones are almost healed. Hoping quitting the vape will take me back to having clear skin like in the old days. I have been trying to figure out my skin issues for over two years, so I wanted to post this in case someone in the future goes looking online for info. A lot of the vape forums tell people that theres no way vaping causes skin issues, so this info is important
Vaping is a terrible idea for lots of reasons, and the research still isn't in on whether it would cause acne.
Smoking may cause more acne, but it's probably not the nicotine from smoking that causes the acne. So would the other chemicals in vapes cause acne? I have never seen research on it. But the more we learn about vaping the worse it looks all around. To be safe, definitely don't vape.
You are causing toxicity in your body by vaping, resulting in cystic acne.
Besidesnicotine, e-cigarettes can contain harmful and potentially harmful ingredients, including:
ultrafine particles that can be inhaled deep into the lungs.
flavorants such as diacetyl, a chemical linked to serious lung disease.
volatile organic compounds.
heavy metals, such as nickel, tin, and lead.

Nobody here has mentioned that it's the quitting smoking that causes the acne. Not the vaping. I went through all the above, it was driving me made,. There wasn't anything I didn't try. In the end I started smoking again after 6 months of just vaping, 2 weeks later the acne went. So I found out by accident. I done some research and found out that giving up smoking can cause a lot of problems including bad skin, which is very common. It's 100% because I still vape and smoke and still no acne. Smoking suppresses hormones and kills vitamins that contribute to the acne, unfortunately when you give up smoking all the hormones become very active, the stuff the smoking had destroyed that stimulates the acne process start running wild and It all starts appearing on your face. Its a horrible double edged sword to be on. I'm going for round two next week, I'm giving up again. I know what to expect this time, I'm just going to have to ride it out, going to end up dead otherwise
Hello all!
I've been researching a topic related to this and surprisingly I have not found much, so thank you!
I am a nicotine gum chewer and have been for the past six years or so (probably more). I smoked for about 6 years, quit 6 years, then started chewing nicotine gum. I didn't notice a huge difference in my acne when I was younger, but now chewing gum, I have acne all over my face, especially my cheeks.
The dermatologist has not been able to figure out the cause. I was given some topical antibiotic and a low dose of a blood pressure medication to help clear up the acne. I personally am not one to consistently use medication so I tried to eliminate a lot of things from my lifestyle. I've changed my shampoo (since the acne resides on my cheeks mostly), skin care, laundry detergent, etc. I eat really clean so there's not really a lot to change in my diet.
With everything I've read here and personal experience, it seems like nicotine is the cause of the acne problem. Since we all have this in common, regardless if we are vaping, smoking, or chewing nicotine gum, we all have cystic acne or something close to it.
I am grateful to have found this discussion and hope I have provided insight.
Yes vaping caused me horrific skin problems. I thought it was giving up smoking, but then after 3 years of no smoking the same persistent spots were appearing. They were like lumps on my forehead and hairline, occasionally on the face, that a lot of the time, would never completely surface, but gave me a rough complexion. They were really uncomfortable and somewhat painful. I had some idea the vaping could be causing it. I tried switching to every ecig juice on the market but would more or less get the same outcome.
I stopped vaping and literally within 24 hrs my skin started to clear. Within a week my skin was the best I could ever remember it been. It felt different in the shower the day after I stopped, really smooth. I noticed the patches start to go so there was an even skin tone. I wonder why I waited 3 years to stop, I think I just really enjoyed vaping. It got me off smoking but I wonder what's in the ecig juice to cause such a bad impact on my skin. I got far better results on my health from stopping vaping than smoking. I saw no difference really in the transition from smoking to vaping, but a huge difference once I had quit vaping. Improved energy levels, clear eyes, huge financial gain, complete skin change(which seemed the best as my confidence is back and anxiety is better) ..... I don't trust vaping at all now, I think there will be problems with peoples health down the road.
To anyone wondering wether vaping is causing skin problems it most likely us. Just look at the time lines, mind started when I started vaping quite heavily and never stopped. Don't fall for people telling you they are quit zits, it's nonsense. Just quit vaping and see for yourself. Best move I ever made
