Hi all,

I've suffered with acne for about seven years (I'm 27 now).  It has come in varying degrees from mild to moderate.  I've tried over the counter stuff, topical creams from my GP (BP, antibiotics) and one type of oral antibiotics (Lymecycline, brought me out in a rash).  However in the last year or so the incidence of huge under the skin cysts has increased.  My skin is the worst it's ever been.  I am on the contraceptive implant (which I am having removed tomorrow to see if this is playing a role).  I am at my wit's end.  Doctors seem vaguely disinterested, they give you a new cream to try (I try it, it never works).  Has anyone got any tips or suffers the same at the same age?  I have taken photos of the latest outbreak (which is damaging my self confidence hideously) to show the GP when I go next week in the hope they will try something more radical.  I've heard Oxtetracycline is good for a while but then you develop resistance after a while?  I haven't ruled out Accutane but I am not sure I will ever be properly listened to.

Thanks in advance :)

The contraceptive implant could be the cause, but you will find that out soon. I use Pai's rosehip bioregenerate oil for cysts, it works great! Don't worry about it being an oil, it won't break you out and it won't make you oily or shiny. I use it 3 times a week, I put it on 30 minutes before going to bed to give it plenty of time to absorb and I leave it on overnight. It doesn't stain bedsheets which is great! And it hydrates your skin.

Another thing that might sound silly but I swear has helped me a lot is taking supplements and drinking a glass of water with lemon every morning. I squeeze half a lemon into a glass, add warm water and drink as soon as I wake up (if you can wait at least 30 minutes afterwards before you eat that's best). In terms of supplements, I take zinc and vitamin d. I know zinc doesn't work for people with higher testosterone levels, apparently it makes them break out. But you could start by trying the vitamin d and seeing if it helps you.

I'm 29 btw :)

I hope your skin feels better soon!

You said that BP did not work for you. Did you use the Benzoyl Peroxide as described in the Regimen? If not, i highly suggest retrying BP with STRICT following of the Regimen. It DOES work.

It is better to stay off the antibiotics. Benzoyl Peroxide does a better job of killing the bacteria on your face than an antibiotic does. BP also only works locally while the antibiotic kills also kills many beneficial bacteria inside of you.
