I am a 19 year old female who has always had some sort of acne. it never used to be this bad, a few pimples here and there and occasionally a big one from time to time, but this past year my skin has gotten terrible. I have had no changes to my diet or anything drastic happening in my life to cause this. I've been able to pinpoint some acne. Any on my chin is due to dairy intake, and caffeine causes my cheeks to break out. With that I don't consume any caffeine and limit dairy to a minimum. I've noticed that whenever I am on my period my acne begins to clear up then gets bad again right after so it must be hormonal. I have never been on birth control and it isn't something I want to try unless I have to. I know on your period your progesterone levels increase so I am attempting increasing them by changing my diet. I have always been a super healthy eater so my diet shouldnt be the issue. I was never one for processed foods and stick to primarily fruits, veggies, and salmon when I can. I dont wash my skin with anything harsh either. I was it twice a day with warm water and Cetaphil and rinse with cold water right after to close my pores. I have found topical treatments to do nothing for me but irritate my skin. Occasionally I do a honey baking soda mask which helps with my redness since I am so fair skinned but nothing seems to erase or prevent acne for me. I am just about willing to try anything but being a college student, I am on a budget. My skin has made me less and less confident because everyone else seems to have such clear skin and I hate that mine stands out so badly so if you have any suggestions please dont be shy!!
Thank you in advance!!
Caffeine broke me out also. Especially coffee & green tea! I suggest that you don't use baking soda on your skin because it can irritate it more. The reason why our skin break us out is that the layer of our epidermis is thin! Baking soda will make it more thin. That means you can easily get more acne because the protective barrier is not there.
