Hi Everyone,
So I just spent a good deal typing out my long story with acne, but deleted it because I decided that it's not my main message here. I guess for some background information, I'm amale in my mid 20s who has struggled with moderate to severe acne for the past 10+ years. I have literally tried EVERYTHING (except Accutane, but even that sounded too dangerous for me). You name it, Ive tried it.
Let me just say this: I understand your suffering. I understand what it's like to feel ugly and horrible about yourself because of your acne. From avoiding looking at yourself in the mirror, to other people's hurtful comments/jokes about your acne, to spending tons and tons of money on products and ebooks only for them to not work...to even avoiding social situations like the Prom, dates, parties, gatherings, etc. Whoever you are I UNDERSTAND YOU.
So let me get straight to it. First I have to put a disclaimer: I am NOT a healthcare professional. I am NOT guaranteeing this will work for you, but based on my experience with painfully struggling with acne for YEARS and trying everything, I have good faith that it will work for you. And if it doesn't then it may help to a certain extent. And if it doesn't, then I'm truly sorry but I want you to know that there is a cure out there for you just like how there was for me.
Another thing I want to put out there: I am NOT an affiliate marketer. The acne industry is rampant with salespeople preying on insecurities, slipping their product recommendation links into seemingly honest content, cashing in on commissions when you click and order. In a way its disgusting to me that such people are out to profit on your misery. Ill recommend products that I have personally used.
Im going to break down this cure into two parts. The outer cure and the inner cure. What is most important to keep in mind is the inner cure is much, much more important than the outer cure.
The inner cure: Magnesium (& Oil of Oregano optional)
The outer cure: Washing with water and moisturizing at night with aloe vera.
Start taking a magnesium supplement. It doesn't have to be super expensive or fancy, just something that is around 400mg. There is a lot of different kinds of magnesium out there, but the one I used was Magnesium Oxide. Just look at the bottle's ingredients when shopping for one. Take one dose at night, preferably before bed since magnesium also has muscle relaxing properties and aids in sleeping conditions like insomnia. I've read testimonies of people who claim they get the best sleep when taking magnesium. If you want to look further into this, do some research, most notably on a supplement called ZMA.
I will say that I was also taking Oil of Oregano with the magnesium (4-5 drops with a glass of water). However I dont believe this was the dominant cure. I weaned off the oil and stuck with Magnesium for several weeks with the same results. My guess is that Oil of Oregano will benefit to those who want to see faster results since it is a powerful anti-fungal treatment. It is also expensive, around $20+ for a good bottle. Dont cheap out, do some research on what a good brand is. My recommendation is North American Herb.
I had a very oily/shiny face for years. Dont blow money on blotting sheets (biggest ripoff, you can always use napkins). Understand that oil is essential for your skin, and when you strip it away completely with chemical products then your face goes into overdrive, pumping out more to rehydrate. Thus, giving you an oily face. There can be other factors such as hormones, stress, foods, temperature, etc. But take it from a guy who had people telling me your face is always shiny to having healthy levels of skin oil.
Start washing your face with water ONLY. No more than 15 seconds which equates to 3-4 splashes. You will still feel oil on your face and THATS OK. Thats what were aiming for. If youve been washing with OTC chemical products for years then it will take your face some time to get back to normal levels. It took me about a week. You will feel the urge to keep washing your face but stick it out with water only. Up to four times a day at first, remember only 15 seconds at the most each time. Then gradually decrease this amount to twice a day: once in the morning and once at night.
After washing your face at night, apply a colorless aloe-vera gel. Avoid using one with menthol, colored dyes, etc. I just use a basic Walgreens brand one. Apply over your face and let it sit on for the entire nights rest. Then rinse off with water in the morning. The aloe vera will hydrate your skin better than any expensive moisturizer you can buy. It will also aid in healing scars and red marks.
Moving forward, you should see results as little as in 1-2 weeks. My breakouts stopped. My face cleared up. I put this to the test by introducing high-sugar and junk foods that would cause my face to break out. The verdict? No new acne even after eating these. My skin became smooth and clear. All I had left were scars and red marks that are slowly fading away.
Over time you can start to incorporate supplemental treatments. Every now and then Ill use an Alba Botanical clay mask. Sometimes at night Ill do a gentle dermabrasion with a cotton ball soaked with Alba Botanical astringent, picking up dead skin cells by rubbing gently in a circular motion across my face. When I shower I use Black African Soap (can be found at Walgreens or any other major pharmacy for $7) on my face and body.
And there you have it. The cure that cured my acne I struggled with for over 10 Years.
Some important notes: I no longer have to take magnesium everyday. I only take it every 2-3 days or when I begin noticing new breakouts. Here are my thoughts on that: If you do research you will find that magnesium deficiency is rampant in the western world. In fact, most blood tests dont even test for it. Combine this with soil depletion, lack of proper nutrients in our diet, etc. It breeds a host of problems. But what this doesnt explain is why some people get acne and some dont. Going back to why I notice new breakouts when I dont take magnesium for a while, my theory is that magnesium levels in the body drop faster for some people than others. Vitamins are stored in the body in various ways, one for example is in fat. So my guess is some people who have perfect skin have healthy levels of Magnesium, whereas some others have trouble retaining it in the body. Im also skinnier than the average guy so that could be an explanation too. This is all speculation though, based on research Ive done around the web. If anyone has any thoughts theyd like to add Id be happy to hear it.
I hope that this information helps those to have shared my pain. Good luck, and please keep us updated on your results!
