I have had severe cystic acne for at least 4 years now. I've gotten used to dealing with it. It is beneath the surface of my skin and will form large pockets of blood and oil that get bigger and bigger and more painful until they are addressed. I know I shouldn't pop them, but I do just because they go away faster and hurt less when I can get the blood/oil out of them. I find it odd that there is almost never that much pus, save for a few here and there. It is mostly blood and a lot of oil. (little graphic) Most of the time the blood is rather dark. Usually a dark red, but sometimes a dark purple that can be seen through the skin. The dark purple hurts the worst. After the blood is done draining, there is tons of oil that seemingly never stops draining.
I had my acne under control for a while by eating very healthy and drinking plenty of water, but today it seems like I've gotten a pretty large break out. Every doctor I've gone to has immediately tried to get me on Accutane, which i am very much opposed to. When I was having "normal" acne as a pre teen I would take medicine and/or use a topical treatment and I ended up with cystic acne instead, so I have been extremely wary of medicines. Some side notes: it is controlled well with a coconut lotion variation that I found at trader joe's (neosporin does the trick sometimes), I eat tons of fruits and vegetables and little meat, I exercise everyday, and I drink almond milk over regular cow milk. I get it mostly on my face, neck, back, and chest. Basically wherever hair grows, but certain they aren't ingrown hair.
Any help would be great. My self esteem isn't great and every time I have a break out, I lose more of it. Thank you.
I'm very opposed to accutane also.
Firstly are you male or female? Females can take specific birth controls or Spiro to get clear. If you're male, I suggest elimination diet. Cut out anything you think might bresk you out for a week. Not just milk but ALL dairy. Drink green tea, cod liver oil and vitamin B5.
Topically ask your derm about retinols or duac. Maybe get a course of antibiotics till the topicals begin to work.

I'm male. I really don't eat any dairy, no cheese, no milk, but I do have an occasional yogurt. At this point I'm almost vegan, in that I eat grilled chicken as my only meat exception. I eat tons of vegetables and fruit. The only thing I can think of that might start flare ups is peanut butter, but I eat that often enough that it shouldn't cause sparatic flare ups. I have also been on a series of different medications that have each done nothing or made my condition worse. I am hesitant to take antibiotics too because if i actually get a serious infection they won't work as well.
I hear you...well maybe its more of an inflammation issue. Do you have allergies or migraines too?
I just cut out peanut butter lol. Maybe try almond butter?
Perhaps a retinoud or topical like duac might work. Or a natural oil like rosehip or sea buckthorn oil. I started taking cod liver oil cause it has vitamin A like accutane but much safer dosages and not a drug.
Whats your topicals or cleansing routine like?
