Hello guys, so about me
Ive had acne for about 3-4 years and no improvements even though ive been to my GP several times. All he did was prescribe me tablets and tropical creams even though they were failing, but then finally he recommened me to a Dermotoligist.
So after waiting 4 months from my first appointment with my dermatoligist, She has finally prescribed me with Accutane 20m/g.
Now the trouble is my skin, i can feel it getting dry and I don't want to use any oily moiserizer also I try not to wash my face with alot of soap which could irritate it.
Im totally stumped on the products i need to buy. If someone that was prescibed acctuane could gimmie a list of their products like Moisturizer, facewash it would be greatly appreciated.
I live in the UK and hope the products are based here aswel cus shipping cost a bomb.
Thanks 🙂
Hi!
I'm starting accutane soon (fingers crossed for bloodwork), and I've done loooaads of research about this, so hopefully I can help you out
As you may have found already, the majority of people doing logs or vlogs about accutane are in the U.S so I did end up ordering some stuff online because of those recommendations. But a lot of stuff here (UK) too.
Ordered from amazon:
- Cerave hydrating face wash
- Cerave PM moisturiser (pm as no sunscreen; there is an am with spf available as well)
- First Aid Beauty (brand) Ultra Repair Cream (for use as face moisturiser) (I've used a teeny bit of this already and it feels amazing!)
- Aquaphor (a half vaseline concoction that seems to be able to be used for anything basically! Moisturising, lip balm, salve for burns and wounds etc. Anyway, I can't wait for the day that I'm dry enough to smear a vaseline like substance all over my face - should be fun) (this is actually now sold in the UK under the Eucerin brand - I've checked and it's exactly the same ingredients, same parent company)
- Jojoba oil (can be used alone or added to moisturiser / make up for moisturising 'boost') (Can get in Holland & Barrett or other health type places, amazon was just cheaper)
Stuff in Boots:
- Cetaphil face wash
- Cetaphil moisturiser (from what I've read, these are both pretty similar to Cerave items)
- Eucerin brand in general has quite a few extra moisturising and sensitive skin options, as well as selling aquaphor. They have a line that is specifically for dehydrated skin due to acne treatments. I have that moisturiser (adjunctive care I wanna say it's called?) which feels quite thick and has an spf so thinking it will be good, even though it feels a little heavy pre-accutane (I got it while using Epiduo). The sensitive / eczema ranges would be good too I'm guessing as they shouldn't have irritants in.
- I've stocked up with Aveeno creamy oil body lotion and E45 intense recovery body lotion, but those are just ones I've used before and liked as opposed to researched.
I've seen some people make do just fine with Simple brand stuff, but I think I remember there being some irritants in some things - depends of sensitive your skin is usually I guess. Other brands I've heard good things about are La Roche Posay and Vichy if you wanna check them out.
Lip balm as an extra section... get lots of it! My lip balm of choice is Carmex, but each to their own. I've got a tube of Blistex medicated or healing or something (used to be Blisteze). Many many many people here and other places swear that Dr Dan's Cortibalm is the only lip product that will really help. I've found it on amazon and ebay for between £10-15. I'm psyching myself up to spend that much on a lip balm but I'm not sure I can do it. We'll see!
Don't worry, I have not actually purchased all of these things specifically for starting accutane (just the amazon section )
Seriously, I know that's probably overkill, but after having oily skin my whole life I got pretty excited researching stuff for dry skin
Hope that's useful to you!
I feel the same, I'm soooo looking forward to having dry skin.
Like side effects are dry skin ect..
some people: dang...dry skin. that sucks
you and me: yas!!! Hmm.....I think I'm gunna by every product there is for people with dry skin. Even though I'll only really use it while I'm on accutane... I need it, all. Of.it.
and that ultra moisturising and all this added stuff moisturising moisturising moisturising Bbcream I brought ages ago, I can actually use now, without my face looking like it's melting of!! Finally. The day has come.
Well tomorrow's when I start (and I'm not as well equiped as you are)
but what you said and clearasil is definitely a must, and my brother said to take fish oil tablets during that time, and paw paw lip treatment is really good as well. (like really good. Like " I just sneezed and my liped split open and bleed so where's the paw paw at?" good. )
but yeah, and what you said sound pretty good. Me and mum are going on a shopping spree tomorrow (accutane and face wash shopping spree...) so I'll have to let you know
