Hey forum,
I've suffered from a particular kind of skin problem where tiny or sometimes large granules of white hard substance would come out of my pores. Even if I was to leave it alone and not pick at it, the granules would fall off and I would have an enlarged/scarred pore afterwards. I have it on my nose and cheeks, and it leaves a large hole after it comes out. I am on Retin-A right now and the occurence of it seemed to slowed down, but I still get it occasionally. Is there anyone that knows what skin problem I have? I'm having a hard time dealing with it and would be happy with any solution.
These are called open comedones. They are a form of acne. Inflamed acne (pimples) are closed comedones. Open comedones are caused by dead skin and oil getting trapped in the pores, creating a hard sebum plug. It's a fairly common condition. Retin-A will help break down the hard plugs so that they go away on their own.
Hope this answers your question!
