Helpless with my Acne

Dear all,

I am a 20 year old Asian with somewhat oily and sensitive skin. I have been getting pretty bad acne since high school, with a large amount being deep cysts. My acne situation in college has been both up and down. In freshman and sophomore year, I could identify the main causes of my acne to sleeping late and occasional constipation. My acne got slightly better in junior year as I slept earlier.

However, as I am in senior year now, my acne has been ridiculously bad. The worst part is, I don't even know what I am doing wrong to trigger these massive outbreaks. My acne now is a combination of cysts and normal acne. I sleep before 1 am on weekdays and a little bit later on weekends. My pooping has been normal for the most part. In addition, I eat fairly healthy, consuming a good amount of vegetables and fiber and avoiding oily food.

The products that I use are Bodyshop's Tea Tree Oil line, with the moisturizer, toner, and the tea tree oil spot treatment. I tried to avoid the harsher treatment like Acne.org's Benzyl Peroxide products because I've heard how bad they are for your skin.

One of the main reason that I think are contributing to my acne is the fact that I cook. Perhaps the oily fume/smoke from cooking cause acne?

Please help me with this. I have become very frustrated because I seem to be doing everything right, yet I still get ridiculously severe acne (and I'm in my 20's!!). Thank you guys for your help. Any suggestion is appreciated :)

It sounds like you really just need to see a dermatologist. I'm also 20 years old, and put off seeing a doctor for years about my skin, thinking I could get rid of it myself, or it would just go away - unfortunately it only got worse. Anyways originally I was put on antibiotics, but in my opinion they are completely useless for severe acne & only ease the acne while you are on them, only to come back worse after you stop taking them. My doctor had me try two types of antibiotics neither worked, so I just went to another doctor who instantly referred me to a dermatologist. Who basically told me with the severe acne I had my only real choice was to on Roaccutane (Accutane, Isotretinoin). Which is actually what I was hoping he would say. Anyways I've been on Roaccutane for about a month now, with no bad side effects, just really, really dry skin. Basically all I'm saying is, with severe acne I think your only real choice is to go to a derm and let him/her evaluate your situation. Anyway good luck mate!

Honestly I wouldn't go with the products from the bodyshops. I have tried them myself and did not find them helpful. Instead I'd rather go with something that can be found in a pharmacy, their products tend to be more reliable and do what they promise. Also be careful not to touch your skin.

One thing I have learned throughout the years is that my biggest source to acne is stress. Not the kind of stress that comes from working a lot. The stress from looking yourself in the mirror thinking about the acne, the stress from thinking about what food you're consuming, the stress from thnking about everything that may have impact on your skin. I know it is hard to suddenly just stop thinking about it but promise me once you do your skin will improve noticeably.

Virtually yours,

Aliasson

Tea Tree Oil products from the body shop are trash to me lmao. Even their little tea tree oil in the small bottle is 15% TTO. Like what is that lmao. Just 15%. The products don't do much, It even caused more acne even.

Their job isn't acne anyway; an aesthetician is a skin care professional....ijs :shifty2:
