Is my skin purging or getting worse?

I'm 18 years old an I've had acne on and off for 2 years. I had really severe acne for 18 months and eventually it completely went away whilst I was taking lymecycline and using benzoyl peroxide 2.5% on my face. All of this year I have had perfect skin, no spots, no red marks. My acne has only just recently came back and I am curious about benzoyl peroxide. My spots are going but they're bringing out red marks, I thought this was just the mark left behind by the spots but I've only just noticed recently that the red marks are turning into white heads, is this my skin being purged and bringing out all of the spots? I am 3 weeks into using the product, thanks for reading

Mmm did you have this same effect when you were taking both the antibiotic and the BP last time?

Unless you had this reaction last time then it is unlikely you are purging as BP, unlike retinoids, AHA and BHA, do not purge the skin generally as BP takes effect immediately at drying out andto kill the bacteria in the pores that can cause the forming acne lesions to worsen and become pus-filled and apparent, so generally it will not cause acne to worsen.

My only logical input is thatperhaps the spots aredeeper than you thoughtand so the spot heals over (into the red mark) before all of the gunk is able to exit the pore and then,a new head emerges.

I'd say give it another 2-3 weeks, especially if you find you can tolerate the bp as it definitely won't be doing you any harm and is very unlikely to cause more acne.

Could be allergic to BP it's not common but it's possible. Causes skin to turn red and scaly. But other than that BP is very drying, make sure to use tons of moisture and give it time. If it doesn't get better discontinue and see if it starts to heal up.
