I'm 26, female and my skin sucks. When I was a teenager I had bad skin, I went on birth control and after trying many different kinds and after some time my skin was a lot better. It was great. At 22, I got off the pill because I didn't think it was very healthy being on it for so long. And about a year after being off the pill my skin got horrible. Hormonal acne, and just general clogged pores and what have you. I eat a plant based diet--I avoid soy for the most part, I also try to eat mostly whole foods. I eat pretty healthy.. I tried the regimen for a long long time and it helped a little..but not much. I've done the oil cleanse, not much help. Now I'm doing Mandelic peels from MUAC. And so far I've gotten a few cysts..which I don't get those as often as anything else and I have three brewing since starting the peel once a week to every four days (about 2.5 weeks). I've also got smaller blackheads that are becoming inflamed which is what I would expect from a peel, but the cysts? I have been eating a lot of sweets lately, that could be it? I take supplements too, Estroblock Pro, Chasteberry, Milkthistle, A,E, Super B, Evening Primrose Oil, Marine Algae Oil, Ashwaganda and I take Niacin at night for flushing. It's quite remarkable how stubborn my skin is. Just wondering if anyone can recommend anything that helps.. I've really tried many things. This is so frustrating.. I'm gaining more and more scars and hyper-pigmentation. Should I keep going with the peels?

Hey, I'm really sorry to hear you're having such a bad time with your skin. It can leave you feeling so helpless and depressed. I used to have cystic acne and it was so awful. I ended up taking roaccutane, despite resisting it for so long (I tried peels, lasers and diet etc), nothing worked and I just got even more depressed. Taking roaccutane was the best thing for me and I don't regret it.

On a side note, I saw a leading dermatologist in London called Professor Chu. He told me that he doesn't like to prescribe the pill to treat acne because it can interfere heavily with how we naturally regulate testosterone. So when you stop taking the pill your acne can get really bad as your body is erratic in it's control of hormone production.

Personally, i would take a proactive approach to your skin and get the advice of a doctor or ideally a dermatologist.

all the best x

Estroblock pro - have you determined that you have too high a level of estrogen? Im not too familiar with EB, but if you found bcp helped, they usually contain levels of estrogen and progestogen, so estroblock may be working against you???
It seems like your acne is deffs hormonal, thats a start! Why not get a hormone test from your family doctor and see what your imbalances are, (I can't remember what time, but usually there is a time in your cycle that is best to get it done), and then pick things with specific reason. Eg if you find you have low estrogen - peppermint tea has estrogenic effects.

Gnarlysnake, I know what you are talking about. I had a really bad skin myself and I tried so many medicinesand treatments that it drove me crazy. I also had many problems with my hormonal system.Peels helped a bit but it did not give me great long lasting results. When I started to change my diet and using light therapy my skin got much better. The diet improvedmy hormonal system a lot. I'm pretty much eating according to the paleo diet and try to avoid sugar as much as possible. I also do not eat to many carbs (just to loose weight). I also started to take liquid fish oil. This helped my skin a lot. Though this was not enough to get rid of my acne. I also started with light therapy. First at my salon and now also at home. I'm mostly using blue light and it works really great. Because a professional device was way to expensive I bought a LED mask for home use. I'm using it every 2 days and I'm very happy with it. I hope this will help you a bit
