So over the last few weeks, I have i've tried to research different types of food that cause acne and different types of supplements that help reduce/prevent acne.

There is much debate on what food causes acne and I understand that everyones skin/body is different and reacts to certain foods in different ways. I'm writing this post to for anyone that can answer a few questions that I have.

  • Why do people suggest that meat causes acne?? Is it the hormones that are given to the animals?? Is it all meat or exclusive to white and/or red meat?
  • what foods help to reduce acne? ( I'm eating a lot of vegetables but i'd also like to try other foods as well)
  • Are all sugars bad?? (For exmaple; fruit??)
  • What types of supplements help with acne? (I've heard zinc is good as well as a probiotic. Has zinc and/or probiotics helped anyone with moderate acne?)

I ask these questions because I am a sufferer of acne for 6/7 years. My acne resides mostly on my forehead. It is pretty persistent in that i would get a new spot every other day. Some days it would be a small whitehead and often it would be a red and slightly inflamed spot that would never come to a head and you can see that the pore is enlarged/raised. Once a spot heals I always get left with a really dark brown mark that stays forever.

As well as my forehead acne I do break out on the side of my face near my cheekbone, more so on the right side than on the left??? Im not sure why (any ideas??) I don't think i sleep more on that side than the left slide?? The spots on the side of my face are more painful than on my forehead.

I have combination skin. Most of my face is normal but my forehead is SUPER DRY (like you can see how bad the texture is especially when foundation is applied). I do not want to go to the dermatologist to be prescribed with oral antibiotics or topical treatments. My days of that are over and i'm looking into more natural alternatives.

Can anyone helpppp?????

1. It has been speculated that leucine content in meat can cause acne because leucine stimulates mTORc1 and SREBP signaling. Leucine is directly formed into fatty acids by sebocytes. It has also been shown that saturated fat will upregulate the same pathway and thus induce acne. low fat meat small to moderate quantities in a healthy diet will probably not cause or aggravate acne.

2. High fiber low glycemic load/index low insulin secretion foods like brown rice, oats, and so on.

3. Yes. But fruits can be eaten in small quantities because (most) fruit has (enough) fiber to slow insulin secretion.

4. I do not support the need for supplements for acne control.
