Will My Acne Ever End? Is This My Reality For The Rest Of My Life?

I've had acne since I was 15. It's been a journey of keeping it under control, and now at 31 I just use a standard BP cleanser (the one from Acnefree,) but I believe it's a reason at this age I am still getting pimples. I tried switching to a gentle cleanser by neutrogena (ultra hydrating creamy) but it sucked and I had a great week, then the next week I broke out in a couple areas like crazy and it wouldn't stop. So I went back on the BP cleanser and now it's under control but of course I still get pimples like I normally did. I've tried to find another gentle cleanser since I hear that's good but searching for one that I am comfortable trying is awful - every one has negative reviews somewhere in there about how this one contains ingredients that clog pores, this one breaks you out, this one isn't fragrance free, etc, etc, etc. It's absurd!! I know everyone's skin is different but it shouldn't be so hard!

IT'S JUST RIDICULOUS! I'm 31 years old, and I can't go a freakin day without having a pimple or two to pop! I wake up, go to work, come home, and look there's a couple new pimples to pop! For no reason! I mean, why is this happening!? I've tried regimens (used to be on proactive and then the acnefree one for many years) and they worked the same, resulting in a pimple or two like this, sometimes worse ones. I never truly had it "under control." I want some sort of resolution, some sort of relief where I can be someone that doesn't have to pop pimples every night before they go to bed, cowering in a black room hoping I'll look better in the morning or won't have another one that appears while sleeping. I splash warm water on my face at night just to wash away and oils and sweat from the day.

Is this current situation just going to be my reality until I die?

When I was younger and full of acne I went to a dermatologist all the time, had them pop bad pimples for me, having needles and tools poked into my face, tried an oral medication, different topicals, nothing truly ever worked. I got through high school, I got through college, and now I'm getting into my life, am I going to be like this in my 40s!?

I am thinking it's time to revisit the dermatologist but I don't get why I can't just wash my face and not break out. I'm scared of dairy now based on all that I read, even though it doesn't really affect me like they say it does. So when I do eat any dairy I feel sick because my stomach isn't used to it. I'm weary of sugars, salt, etc. Doesn't matter. I can be so good all week with my diet and I'll still get pimples. Even tried not drinking coffee this week, boy was that tough! No difference, still got pimples.

I don't understand, why it can't just STOP FINALLY!!!

And to top it off...there's a small spot on the side of my nose that every couple weeks gets white underneath the skin...you can tell it's a clogged pore, so I go to pick it and a bunch of hard puss comes out, and it's good for another couple weeks. I mean...why does that happen!? how? what's wrong with my face!?

I've found that people have different acne triggers...it could be hormones for one person, diet for another, stress for the next. I am 27 and like you I have acne prone skin..this started when I was about 12 years old and it can get fairly annoying especially when you feel you have tried everything.I got on Acne.org a few years back and heard of "The Regimen"...a three step process which some people would compare to proactiv and all that. However, the process of applying the products and the explanation behind it really got me to understand how acne comes about and how to control it. It was definitely my skin's saving grace! My acne is triggered by hormones and stress, but I have come to find that complying with The Regimen has really kept my skin clear for the most part.

So try to get a better understanding of what triggers your acne and what are some of the possible steps you are willing to do to help. I know you feel like you have tried everything but sometimes it just takes persistence and patience. There will not be a quick fix to it, so make sure with whatever you try, you give it a chance to work.

I might try a Salicylic Acid cleanser instead of getting back on a regimen. The BP one still dries me out. Anyone know anything about Biore Acne Scrub? It's got 1 % SA. Should I try a cleanser over a scrub? Or will the scrub be more sufficient? I've heard good and bad. What's a GOOD SA cleanser if anyone is using one? I have sensitive skin, so I feel 1 might be better than 2?

I feel you. My face is a damn mess and I just turned 27. I had pretty good skin for a few years where I wasn't breaking out much except a little bit during that time of the month. Now I am sitting here with a face full of zits and scabby areas that are healing and I am just disgusted with my shitty skin. I eat healthy too, and don't drink milk (cutting milk helped me when I was a teenager) nope, nothing works. I ask that same thing you do, what's wrong with my face!? Sometimes I talk to my skin and tell it how much it sucks and how it isn't doing its job properly. Maybe if I talk nice to it it would behave >:\

I'm in the same position and I'm 31. I pretty much have been through most topicals and due to dermatitis brought on by bp, I can't even use topicals anymore. My acne is beyond horrendous. I am back on a paleo type diet which has not helped in the past...at all but this is that last stop before trying spiro. It's good to see someone else goi through something similar (though I wish we didn't have to)

Yepp I can't use topicals either, my skin is so screwed up. I developed an allergy to BP a few years back that makes my face turn red and itchy and swells up. Prior to that I used it with no problems for years. Same with sulfur. I know what you mean, to know that there are other people dealing with the same thing makes me feel like less of a freak. I am on a ketoenic diet now (mostly to lose some weight) and it seems to help with my skin a bit and my mood, too. I have been depressed over my skin so the diet helps with that to an extent. I went on keto when I was 15, lost 50lbs and my acne went away. However the "acne" or whatever it is I am dealing with these days is different from what I had as a kid. Seems way more stubborn, though my skin is doing ok today. Had a big breakout this past week and it seems to all be healing now (knock on wood) Also washing my face less and only using water when I do wash, my skin feels a lot less oily today. I may give caveman a try again because last time I tried it, my skin looked SO much better, so less oily and less irritated. I didn't wash at all yesterday and my skin is much calmer, and matte, today. I am learning (maybe too late) that less is more.

EDIT: also want to add I stopped wearing make up (again) 3 days ago and all the tiny little clogged pores I get on my chin are already clearing up. I have had success ridding myself of these bumps before when I quit make up, after having them constantly for years. I so wish I could wear it without problems, but oh well. Gotta face the world with bare skin D: Luckily nobody cares about what my skin looks like as much as I do.

It's good know I'm not alone, but still stinks that we all go through this despite trying. It'd be different if we just let ourselves go and didn't make an attempt. People that are obese make an attempt and they actually change. We could try everything and still get acne and that's not fair.

I have a doctor's appointment next month and I'm just going to get a referral to a dermotologist to see what they'd say. I'm not going on a crazy regimen again, and I'm not taking anti-biotics b/c I enjoy partaking in the world of craft beer and I want to continue enjoying that part of my life. But maybe there's an oral med I can take that'll help keep things more under control. Or a different prescribed cleanser. We'll see. I haven't seen a dermotologist since I was 19. I'm in my 30s now. Never thought it'd come to this, but it has, and I just have to deal with it and I really hope after seeing a dermotologist I can find something that'll make this more tolerable and not as much of a disgusting and dehibilitating thing to deal with as an adult.

Have a look at these products and reviews from other people...like anything doesn't work completely for everyone but worth a go when bp isn't working or skin is sensitive to that. Read the reviews in the links and even check out the facebook page for user comments.

I'm 35 years old and will be 36 in March and I still break out. My husband has a new job and we finally have insurance again so I'm going to an endocrinologist to get a full panel done. I already know I have something "off" with my testosterone and perhaps my estrogen (I'm on spiro and BC) but by God I'm going to do whatever it takes to figure this $#!+ out. I also had an ovarian cyst years ago and think I may be prone to them so I need to get that checked out as well. I accidentally ran out of spiro and wasn't able to get back to my doctor for approximately a month and broke out like MAD...huge cyst and several nodules. I've been back on my spiro for a little over a month now and while I don't have the cysts and nodules I had I still break out. I'm effing sick of this.

It seems to be the same areas I realized too that I get really bad ones and break out randomly. There's many parts that I used to break out at and don't anymore which is good, but for some reason the areas right next to my nose (not on it but next to it) and around my chin area always seem to get ones week after week after others have healed. and of course the occasional one on my forehead. I get these weird ones that look pussy but end of just bleeding, and then after a couple days there's just little dried out spots that soon go away. I don't get who those keep happening.

Heyy, I use the Biore Acne scrub and it's not that bad. It did improve my skin somewhat. It just dries me out but nothing a moisturizer cant fix. I would recommend using it like 2x a week.
