I am at a crossroads here after being seven weeks into the DKR. My skin has very much cleared up with nothing but a few hyper pigmentation spots. My face has never been this consistently clear(ish) . Assuming you still use the two pumps of benzoyl peroxide, did your skin ever truly become accustomed to that amount of BP? It just seems like a hell of a lot for my skin to handle and I wake up every day to a face covered in flakes despite applying two pumps of cerave, 6 drops of jojoba oil, and then a good amount of Cetaphil cream on top of that . My acne has never been very severe, never more than four or five zits total max and I haven't had more than two at a time in over a month. I really just want to know if time will make my skin feel smooth again and not scaly and flaky. In your experience, is time the solution or a potential reduction in BP say, cutting it down to one pump twice a day. Thanks for reading this far and thanks in advance for any feedback!
On August 7, 2015 at 7:04:16 PM, Control Panel said:Once you've completely cleared your skin, continue to perform the regimen for about 2 weeks. If you don't break out after this period, you can reduce the amount of BP to like 1.5 pumps twice/day. Use this amount for another 2 weeks to see if you can stay clear. Each time you reduce the amount you'll have to use it for 23 weeks b/c that's how long acne can take to surface. You really shouldn't use less than 1 pump twice/day because applying less than that would be irritating to spread. Remember: the less product you use the more difficult it is to gently smooth it across your skin. So using half the amount (1 pump) should encourage you to be twice as gentle while applying.
Since you'll be using less BP, you can become more prone to breakouts. What's the solution to this? AHA. It helps to prevent the skin from clogging, which will provide extra assurance. Also keep in mind that using 2 full pumps makes your skin excessively dry, and we know that dry skin is acne prone. So I think it's vital not to use 2 pumps once your skin has mellowed. In conjunction w/ all of this, you may want to take the advice from this page. Again, extra assurance against breaking out.
I'm confused because if you look at the ingredients in the moisturizer, cetearyl alcohol is one of them and isn't that what clogs pores? I really want to know if that is making me breakout even when I'm almost in my 2nd month.
I've noticed a huge improvement in the balance of my skin's (oil prone, fighting acne, so dry n flaky where I'm applying spot treatments) texture when I wash (Mixed with an exfoliator)tone with gentle witch hazel, and follow with a good quality moisturizer (ZO daily power defense). I only spot treat at night. I'm 31, dark Asian. I alwaystry to keep it simple and pay attention tointuition. Acne can be caused by skin cells that block pores so you definitely don't want constantly dry, flaking skin. Hope this helps!
