Hey everyone!
In the past I had pretty bad back acne that went away with the use of a prescription Clindamyclin/Benzoyl Peroxide 1/5% gel that I applied once per day before I went to bed. I stopped taking this prescription and some of my shoulder acne returned as well as some werid formation on my chest that look like blackheads.
My question is, first what is on my chest? It doesn't seem like traditional acne but I can't find an answer anywhere. Also tomorrow I'm going to start using salicylic acid in my morning shower and restart the prescription in the evenings. Do you think this will solve my problem?
Thanks for any advice- I really appreciate it!
My first guess was folliculitis but I'm not entirely sure. Do the spots have puss in them and do they smell bad if popped? They look like blackheads from that angle, which SA should help.
Thanks for your reply!
I don't quite know the answer to your question as I've never popped any of the spots that are there. They (as you can see) are pretty small in size. Is there any way to determine a difference between folliculitis and blackheads? Will SA/My prescription acne cream help if folliculitis is the diagnosis?
In my experience with patients BP works much better on folliculitis than SA does due to the bacteria found in the pores with folliculitis. SA is really more of an exfoliant which makes it better for blackheads. Due to the size of the pimples and lack of redness I'm leaning away from folliculitis though. I would use both BP and SA and see if that helps. Just make sure to use them separately like you said. If your problem persists you should see a board certified dermatologist to try and figure out what it is and what's causing it. Also make sure your SA is not in wash form as that is not likely to help. Just get a 2% SA gel and rub in a bunch once a day.

Ah shoot, so if my SA is this (2% wash) and I use it in the shower- chances are it won't really help?
