Has anyone here used accutane, or a generic version of accutane and reached success in eliminating excessive oil production in the face and all of the nose area? Whether it was a low dose or a moderate dose.

-thanks

Yeap! My face is pretty dry now actually. It's been about 8 months since going off my course. I still have some oil production - but excessive oil production is pretty much eliminated.

Awesome.

Soon, I will most likely be going on 5mg/daily to combat the oil production on my t-zone, and now, suddenly, excessive oil production all around my nose.

What was your dose, and until when did you see improvement?

accutane is a very serious drug ...i took 20 mg for 4 months only and i ended up with side effects ....(im still dealing with scalp flaking untill now)

if oil i your only problem ....i advise you not to use accutane ....its not worth it

and the last descion is yours

good luck

Yep, I took Accutane for 5 months. started with 20mg first month to 40mg next three months and then finally 50mg in the final month. Luckily the only side effect I had was dry skin but after 2 months of being off the drug, my skin is now normal. Not too oily (although sometimes I get some oil on my nose but even that is minimal) and not too dry. and CLEAR SKIN! couldn't have asked for more.

If you are self medicating just make sure you do not over do it, I was on Accutane when I was 17 (80mg a day for 16 weeks) and it cleared my acne for over a year, unfortunately it returned and I then began to self medicate, fortunately now in late 20's I don't need it anymore. Just make sure you know the consequences before taking the drug, 5mg will probably not have too many side effects but at higher doses even after completing a course your skin can stay dry for months if not years, as someone above mentioned it is not just your face that gets affected, dry scalp is often an unwanted side affect and I can tell you from personal experience it can be a pain to get rid of. If your acne is so mild you will only need to take 5mg then it may be better to avoid using Accutane.
