Hello Everyone...
I am new to this forum and just wanted to say hello and to possibly get some advice from you all as I am feeling a little overwhelmed.
Basically having struggled with Acne since the age of 14, to having it disappear after a course of Doxycycline, Duac Gel and Dianette when i was 17 it sadly came back when i was pregnant at the age of 21. Since then it has come and gone in cycles but for the past year it has been progressively getting worse and now i am 26.
Having been to the doctors so many times i lost count and taking so many different anti biotics they finally referred me to a dermatologist.
They have suggested i go on Roaccutane. I am very much looking forward to starting the process and have read up on all the different side effects from taking this drug. I am extremely over whelmed by this, and i am due to start taking this pill on the 2nd February.
Can anyone suggest a good face wash, moisturiser etc to help with the dry skin and can anyone suggest anything to help me with any other side effects?
I would really appreciate the help.
Thank you.
L

cetaphil is a really good moisturiser for acne treatments ,, good luck on your journey . similar to you im 27 suffering for 12 years my gp wont refer me to a derm tho and i cant afford to go private
Oh no that's sad to hear Clairehh..... i had to push and push my doctor into referring me, he kept suggesting more anti biotics but after trying so many of them i kept telling him no and persisting to see one.
I am due to go to the hospital on monday and get my first lot of pills so i will be taking them on monday....... very nervous but hopefully it works.
I have bought Cetaphil moisturiser and will be buying the facial wash too, fingers crossed i don't get too many symptoms.
Good luck on your journey also Clairehh and i hope you get the help you need soon.

Hi. I am also on roaccutane and from the uk. im 27.
Get a really gentlle moisturiser as your skin will be so sensitive. Iv been using one from a brand called dermaquest but i see a lot of people use cetaphil or cerave.
How are you finding the pills? Have you had many of the side effects?
My skin has just started drying out and my face feels really tight. Have only been taking the pills 5 days now.
I'm finding the cetaphil moisturiser really greasy on my skin so I'm going to try neutrogena oil free spf moisturiser instead

Yea its been great, really cleared my skin up im very happy. I use to get huge cysts on my chin and I havent had one since about my 6th week on roaccutane. Side effects have been minimal just dry lips and skin. My skin is getting a lot drier since the cold weather.
What dose are you?
I didnt like cetaphil i found it too greasy too and i think it clogged my pores, but a lot of people do use it. Try clinique i love their moisturisers x
Hi everyone, finally I have found an up to date forum on roaccutane, So far I am on day 4 of treatment at 70mg and cannot describe how excited I am at starting this journey. I am 32 and have battled with Acne since I was 13 and like everyone else I have been on all the contraceptive pills known to help, antibiotics and creams and finally I have been referred to a dermatologist who in his words said ' you deserve to be on this treatment'
I'm hoping I can keep in touch with people on here as a form of support and to compare stories and good ideas to battle the 'side effects' so far I've started to have a dry nose, eyes and hands, and feel a little light headed later in the day. I've stocked up on a light simple face moisturiser and aveeno hand care and carmex for lips.
Hope you.re getting on ok lou1988 be good to chat soon.

Hi, as previously mentioned I really liked the cetaphil cleanser during my course. however, personally I didn't like the moisturiser as it doesn't;t have spf in it. and because skin becomes more photo sensitive during Accutane, spf is a must!!
the first month I used cetaphil moisturiser and became ridiculously tanned (and I never tan) and could only put it down to the fact that it has no spf. and since applying a separate cream with spf was too much hassle, I invested in a good spf moisturiser. sorted the problem
Good luck
oh... and AQUAPHOR!!! the soothing skin balm is a life saver for lips and pretty much anywhere else on ur body/face that becomes dry (which will probably be everywhere)

Hi Emma,
I have DM'd you also.
You're only 70mg?? I am only on 30mg at the moment but due to go back on the 2nd March to have the dose upped.
I too get very light headed in the afternoons and find that lights are getting abit too bright for my eyes, but i just tend to wear sunglasses abit more or sit in the dark
I am always up for sharing my experience so will definately be around to chat more during this process. Its nice to hear other peoples advice and support too.

Mumbojumbo i too have found that the cetaphil hasn't been right for me, i guess its trial and error with all things. My make up i use has spf in it and i am now using a neutrogena oil free spf moisturiser i found, fingers crossed this helps but i will definately look into the AQUAPHOR.
Thanks.
