My Ongoing Success

While this is very early in my daily regiment, I've found shocking success in this:

When I was 13-14 I began getting severe acne. Not cysts, but really just covering most of my face. While being put on Tetracycline by my Doctor, then Minocycline by my Dermatologist, along with Retin-A cream, nothing seemed to work perfectly. Minocycline is known to cause liver damage and the Retin-A I used for years had burnt and discolored my skin. While over the years, at age 19 now, I'm a guy with light acne. Pretty much between 6-12 white heads throughout the day. And I've been happy with that, although I've always been looking for a solution.

A couple months ago I started to buy more pillowcases to have one a night and then wash them each. I did this so that I would no longer sleep in dead skin cells, hair, and facial oils every night that would cause acne in the morning and dry out my skin more. I also changed shampoos to something without Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. I dropped every acne product, including my sensitive skin cleansers and Salicylic Acid cleansers because they had that harsh ingredient in them. Almost all acne products have it and it's no wonder our skin is red and raw after using it. Your acne products cause acne... Thank you, "beauty" industry! I also began washing only once a day at night after a shower because my dry, sensitive skin only got drier during the day if I washed in the morning.

So what did I do?

  • I use Vaseline 100% PURE Petroleum Jelly all over my face after a warm shower at night. I wear it on to bed and do not put anything on top of it. Before I put it on, I take a tissue to pay excess water from my skin from my shower and then spray a mist of clean tap water from a spray bottle on my face, then apply the Vaseline. Every morning I wake up with healed, soft, and non-irritated skin! And my bone dry skin is a thing of the past. I never use a moisturizer throughout the day, whereas I used to have to use heavy creams or Argan Oil to get it hydrated enough.
  • I take 2 grams of Vitamin C a day. I started at 1,000mg and then raised it to 2,000mg. While I can't say it helps my acne, it's just part of my routine and I thought I'd include it.
  • I've been taking 2 grams of Vitamin B5 or Pantothenic Acid everyday, one gram in the AM and one gram in the PM. After a week I've found this to work pretty well. I've got a couple white heads still but I'm considering adding 1.5 grams in the AM and PM to see if 3 grams will put the white heads to rest. I take an equal amount of L-Cysteine to try to prevent any negative hair loss reactions, as I've heard that is common place with HIGH dosages of B5 (i.e. 10+ grams, but still common after months of 7-5 gram dosages from the reviews I've read).
  • In addition to the L-Cysteine, I take a specially formulated Collagen pill that is supposed to help with hair, nail, bone, and yes, skin growth, strength, and development.
  • I have cut dairy, most all chocolate, peanut butter, BAD fatty foods, many starches and carbohydrates, grease, nuts, and oils (other than olive oil) from my diet. I've been eating fish, salads, high Vitamin K greens, sweet potatoes, fruit, veggies, and other good foods. I've also been on my way to balancing out more of my Omega-3/6 ratio too.
  • I have also reduced my stress lately which I've found to be beneficial, not only in my acne, but my overall health.

While it's only been a little over a week, my results have been spectacular. It won't work for everybody, I know. But I just wanted to share my experiences, and my brief period of success with all of you in hopes that something I've said may spark an idea for another acne sufferer.

I wish you all the best in finding your treatments, regiments, and potential "cure" to acne, and thanks for reading!

Hiya!

Thanks for sharing your story:)I was wondering if you could do an update? It's been a while, maybe you're no longer on the forum but I haven't found many who took larger doses of B5 and were successful so I'd love to hear how it's gone for you. I used to take it (500 mg-1g+) but I freaked out after the reviews I read eventually. Also my skin didn't clear after a week like yours did, but my situation was different back then with hard water and stress, different diet etc.

Cheers,

S
