I should start out by saying that I have been a long term moderate acne sufferer for over 4 years now, and had tried countless topical treatments to resolve the problem, which in many cases made the situation considerably worse. In particular, I was attracted to the acne.org regime due to its promising results and high ratings through this community. After about 2 months on the programme, my spots had certainly stopped occuring, and my face was in some sense acne free, but at what cost? The many products left a sticky residue that makes the skin feel horrible. Indeed, videos and photos hide this fact, but if you or anyone else feels the desire to touch your skin, they will quickly notice it. On top of this, you need to be absolutely relentless with the treatment -- if you deside to spend the night with a friend/lover, or go outside the close proximity of hot water and cosmetics (like camping), your skin will quickly feel tired, tight and covered in your old red-headed enemies.
It took me a full year and a half of inconveniencing my life, and walking around with sticky disgusting skin, to realise that this wasn't the way to go. Instead, I focused on the areas that were worsening the acne in the first case, which in my case was down to my oily skin. At the time, I was showering everyday, and washing my face at night. Simply cutting this down to at most one face washing a day, and using nothing but a mild soap (I use Palmolive), dramatically reduced the oiliness of my skin. On top of this, cutting down the amount of sugar in my diet also made a significant reduction in skin oils. I don't completely avoid refined sugar, but instead only have it after a main meal, to reduce its impact on my body.
After coming off the regime, and actively reducing my sebum production, through not excessively washing my face and cutting fown refined sugars, I am far more happier with my skin. Indeed I get the occasional spot, but my skin texture and feel is so much nicer, and I'm able to live a healthy and mildy spontaneous life, without having to worry about smearing Benzoyl Peroxide on face.
