Hello! Background: -18 yr old female in college -completed 2nd 6 month Accutane course in September. -use Proactiv deep cleansing wash as cleanser -proactiv complexion perfecting hydrator as moisturizer Alright, so here lately my face has been breaking out in small, non-inflamed bumps ALL over my face. They usually last 2-3 days and often itch quite a bit. They aren't painful at all and you can barely feel them but they're very red. They never have whiteheads or black heads to them. It's literally like a bunch of bug bites but I know that's not the case. They started showing up in moderation a month after I finished Accutane and I could tolerate them. However, I woke up this morning and had literally 30 of these mysterious bumps covering my face. Around my mouth, chin, inner cheeks, nose, eye lid, forehead..everywhere! I got used to having completely clear skin for a while and these bumps make me want to return to my depressed, reclusive, angry state like when I had severe cystic acne. The funny thing is, 90% of them show up on one side of my face. I only have 2 on the right side. I question whether it's merely acne because how could it be possible to wake up with 30 acne bumps on your face overnight? The only thing I can think of is an allergic reaction. Triggers I believe might might be involved: -New fluffy body pillow I purchased a week ago. I rest the left side of my face on it all night which is where most of the bumps are. -Immense stress due to personal relationships and being in college. -I tend to eat a lot of grains, wheat products and a lot of bread. -The face wash I'm using (and have been for a year now) aren't working for my skin and actually causing a allergic reaction. -Change in weather. -Lack of sleep. -I sometimes take sleep aids to go help me go to sleep because I suffer from pretty bad insomnia. -I also smoke marijuana sometimes to help relax. Please, will someone try and help me. I want my clear skin again
I've never been on Accutane so I'm by no means super experienced there, but as far as I know it's best to not to use any sort of topical acne products while on Accutane as it is already pretty drying on its own. Whenever I get those small red but not inflamed bumps (almost kind of rash like?) it's because I've over irritated my skin. I would try switching to a gentle and hydrating cleanser and moisturizer I can imagine that would help to calm your skin down and allow the Accutane to do what it's supposed to do without causing any extra discomfort!
Hey, I think I might be able to help you on this one.
I had exactly the same kind of reaction around 6 months ago. In fact its my most common kind of breakout.
The likelyhood is your skin is having a reaction to something, and that in turn is causing irritation that may lead to pimples and comodones forming.
Your skincare regimen sounds very drying which could be leading to irritation. However, the worst thing you can do with this kind of reaction is panic and try out a bunch of new products, I have made this mistake and it will only further upset your skin.
So for now here are some things to consider -
What kind of detergent/fabric softener you are using. You say your breakouts are localised to the left side, is there a possibility that you need to change to a sensitive/natural brand of detergent? I also recommend cutting out fabric softener all together, and if possible, putting your pillows/wash cloths/towels (anything that touches your face) on a rinse cycle in the washing machine to make sure there is no reside left from your detergent.
Secondly, it sounds like you may need some exfoliation, the best treatment I found for my bumps was chemically exfoliating with lemon juice. I squeezed a little onto a cotton pad, applied it over my problem areas (it stings like hell for a minute but just trust that its doing its job) then I left it on over night and day by day my inflammation went down, redness disappeared and all the little bumps under my skin began to fall away. (It was so satisfying!)
If you are concerned about the strength you could always dilute 50/50 with water to begin with and do a patch test on your jaw line.
Finally have you tried limiting your dairy and sugar intake? It made a huge difference to my reactive skin. Just little changed like replacing milk with almond milk, cheese with vegan cheese and trying dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate helped my skin.
Hope some of that helps!
I have these too! Like small blister like things. If I try to pop them (they are very tiny) a little liquid comes out. That's it. They are really freaking me out. I don't seem to get acne. Just these. I haven't changed anything really. I have also been on accutane though. They can appear anywhere, like I have two small ones on my cheek and then one on my chin, then another on my right cheek and one on my forehead. They aren't red until I start picking, then they break and then there is a small red dot in its place. They go away in 24h depending on how much I touch them.
I can't remember doing anything different except drinking some soy and perhaps more exercise.
