Hi everyone... My names jake and I need some guidance and/or suggestions and figured maybe this would be the place for it. I'm 25 years old and have suffered from acne since I've been about 14. I've gone through the accutane treatment and all sorta of pills when I Was younger to manage and "cure" my acne. I use the clean and clear benzoyl peroxide daily wash with 10 percent benzoyl. I also use the 10 percent benzoyl cream on infected areas too. As well as oil free moisturizer at night. I eat mostly heAlthy food. No soda, no fast good. I drink lots of water. I'm kinda starting to lose hope. I get pimples and cystic zits in no particular area. They pop up all over my face. I go through phases of hardly any acne then the next week It flares up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions let me know if that would help you come up with suggestions. Thank you! - jake

Hello Jake,

There are a lot of factors that causes acne. Stress, lack of sleep and exercise could also be a culprit for the sudden break outs. It could also be the way you sleep when the skin of your face rubs against the pillows therefore aggravating your acne. Allergies to other chemicals that you are not aware of could also cause your breakouts. Hope this helps : )

Thanks izzy! I've recently started working out and drinking a soy based protein shake and have been trying to have a high protein intake diet. Could this be a factor? If so. Do you or anyone have any suggestions of what kind of protein I should be taking if I have acne prone skin. Thank you :)

Do you drink a lot of milk?? Many on here have found dairy to be an acne aggravator because of the natural and/or synthetic hormones present in the milk. Something to look into... several threads out there on the subject. I never tried dairy elimination personally although wished I had tried it years ago. If you're strength training, many guys take whey protein but then again, whey is a milk derivative... but some guys on here swear by it and even feel this helped their acne. See attached post:

Cool avatar btw! :) Is it supposed to be the Joker or a vampire?

I have a friend who has the same situation with you. She went to a doctor, and after few months, things get better. She used Teen Derm Gel skincare line. or You should check Skinna Brand on Facebook in Vietnam. Those can be trusted!

Thanks delovely :) and I believe it's supposed to be the joker...yeah I tried whey. I actually think that's why I was breaking out so bad to begin with! I just recently switched over to 100% soy isolate and my body seems to be reacting much better to it. I take a multi vitamin everyday but I'm going to take zinc for a couple days for inflammation and see how that goes. I will update either tomorrow or Monday. Thanks - jake

Hi Jake....Yeah I noticed you were using a soy-based protein shake...the guy in the thread I sent you swears by whey protein as part of a healthy diet regimen but interestingly was one of the anti-dairy zealots I've met on this site lol...I was like hello?...whey is dairy...but I guess whey doesn't affect his skin. Do you take any EFA (essential fatty acid) supplements, like fish oil? These are supposed to help promote healthy skin. I've taken fish oil for years for cardio health but didn't know it was also good for the skin. Just started take hemp seed oil which has Omega 3, 6 & 9 EFAs.

Personally I'm a huge fan of the Acne.Org Regimen...cleared me in just a couple of months! Now my son is using it and it's eliminated a lot of his acne in about 5 weeks.

I thought it was the Joker lol, but didn't want to assume. :)

Hi Jake, as izzytizzy said, there are other contributory factors to acne. You could try keeping tabs on what you do and use i.e.food products and even skin products, that precipate the acne; because either of them could be the culprit. Basically, be sure that you aren't allergic to your long-term and trusted skin products.

Just an update: I haven't drank a protein shake in 2 days and my face has completely calmed down. I also took some ibuprofen which, for me, works wonders. That much protein stresses out the body I guess and my body didn't like it. I really hope I can keep my muscle without a high protein intake diet. :/

Hello MN121188, popping your cystic acne is not advisable. When acne bursts, infection spreads and can cause more breakouts. Use also mild soap when washing your face and washing twice a day (morning and evening) is also advisable.
