I've been suffering from acne since I was in college. Had great skin in high school and then it got really bad with cysts and nodules. My dermo at the time tried everything and finally duac did the trick. I have been on it for 7 years and my skin has been great, just with the occasional pimple here and there. Well unfortunately about three weeks ago I started breaking out with the cystic acne again on my chin and jawline. I went to my dermo she prescribed me solodyn and acanya. I've been on them for a couple of days but I'm still kind of confused on why she would prescribe me acanya if it has the same active ingredients as duac. Will it have a different effect than duac? And how soon should I notice improvement from the solodyn? The acne is really painful this time around so I'm just a little anxious for the medicine to kick in.
I hear your frustrations. With cystic acne, topicals tend not to be as effective for many of us. I'm not sure why your derm would prescribe that. Have you thought to ask for retin a to go with it? Or even another topical antibiotic? What's your diet like? (for some people, diet can affect acne, especially the cystic kind). I would suggest you call your derm up and express your concerns.
