Okay, so ever since i hit puberty at like 12 or 13, i started getting moderate acne on my chin. Im 17 now, and its really bad. I also breakout around my mouth. its basically my whole lower part of my face. My cheeks and forehead are so clear. My skin also has become very oily now all of the sudden, and i always used to have dry skin. I also have white spots on my fingernails which can be linked to a zinc deficiency, so i thought maybe this all could be signs of hormonal acne or just a zinc deficiency or something? I want to go on birth control but im terrified of what it will do when i want to get off of it later on. Any suggestions?
I'm 19 and I've just started to get really bad hormonal acne. It's mainly around my chin and lower cheeks. Right now I'm taking Vitex and DIM and it's supposed to regulate my period. I suffer from very irregular/ missed periods. It's almost been a month since I've taken these and the amount of cystic pimples I've been getting has decreased drastically.
It's definitely hormonal acne if you have other symptoms that are linked to hormonal imbalance such as: PMS, period troubles, acne mainly around mouth/chin/jaw line, linked with your monthly cycle, and if it's cystic. You don't have to have all these symptoms but these are just some symptoms that identifies with hormonal imbalance.
First of all, don't go on birth control without consulting with your doctor first. I think that's a really big thing to discuss and think about before you start it. Also, eliminate other factors that could be causing your acne around the whole lower part of your face and see if it makes a difference. Do you unconsciously touch that part of your face often? Do you change your pillow cases regularly? It could also be your toothpaste or something you're putting around your mouth area like a make-up/skin care product?
